Five of the Bruins' (45-7, 16-3 Big Ten) 13 hits went for extra-bases, including three home runs by Savannah Pola (9), Megan Grant (23) and Kaniya Bragg (8). Freshman right-handed pitcher Addisen Fisher (16-0) put the finishing touches on a third straight game with 6.0 innings of relief to earn her 16th win of the season.
ย
Pola and freshman Rylee Slimp both racked up three hits in the ballgame. Redshirt sophomore designated player Alexis Ramirez continued her hot stretch at the plate, going 2-for-3 to extend her hitting streak to six games.
ย
Twice the Wolverines' (32-18, 9-10 Big Ten) batters left the yard in back-to-back fashion. The first time came in the bottom of the first inning to bookend a UCLA pitching change. Senior Ellie Sieler chased Bruins' starter Taylor Tinsley out of the game with a two-run homer to right field and Maddie Erickson welcomed reliever Kaitlyn Terry, who moved from left field to the circle, with a solo shot to left. The two homers gave Michigan its largest lead of the series at 5-1.
ย
The Bruins quickly went to work in the top half of the second inning. Pola trimmed the deficit to just one run by smacking a 2-0 pitch into the right-center bleachers for a three-run homer.
ย
Trailing by a run in the fourth, Slimp recorded her second base hit off the bench with a single into center. Terry reached next on a solid bunt attempt and wild throw by Erickson at third base that allowed Slimp to advance to third base. The Bruins' leadoff hitter Jessica Clements executed some key situational hitting with a deep sacrifice fly to center that allowed Slimp to score easily and tie the game, 5-5.
ย
UCLA loaded the bases with no outs the next inning in the fifth on a Grant check-swing single, Bragg's nation-leading 20th hit-by-pitch of the year and a walk to Ramirez. One batter later, Slimp dropped another hit into shallow center field that bounced awkwardly and past Michigan's Jenissa Conway for a two-RBI double. Terry followed with a two-RBI knock of her own by shooting a single into right field, pushing the Bruins' lead to 9-5.
ย
UCLA scored its final three runs of the game in the sixth behind the slugging bats of third baseman Jordan Woolery, Grant and Bragg. Woolery, who struck out looking twice on two close calls earlier in the day, finally got her pitch to hit on a 3-1 count with a triple down the right field line. Grant saw Woolery's triple and raised her a two-run homer โ her 23rd of the year. After a pitching change, Bragg completed the power sequence with a homer to left field to back-to-back.
ย
Grant needs one more homer to tie Caitlin Benyi (24 HR, 2004) for fourth-most in UCLA single-season history.
