Softball Hosts Top-25 Series Versus Ohio State on Alumni Weekend

LOS ANGELES – The No. 9-ranked UCLA softball team plays its first top-25 Big Ten Conference series this weekend, welcoming No. 21 Ohio State to Easton Stadium for two games on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5.
The Bruins (34-5, 7-1 Big Ten) will be hosting their annual Alumni Day on Saturday. Game time for Friday's contest versus the Buckeyes (30-7-1, 6-2 Big Ten) is scheduled for 6:02 p.m. (PT) while Saturday will start at 4:02 p.m.
UCLA and Ohio State, two of the most high-powered offenses in the country, both rank top 10 nationally in runs scored, home runs and slugging percentage.

Woolery also leads UCLA with a .447 batting average (51-for-114). She has recorded a base hit in 34 of 39 ballgames and strung together two 10-plus-game hitting streaks this season. The former 2023 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and NFCA All-American is enjoying career bests in home runs (16), runs batted in (57) and batting average (.447). She has logged two multi-homer games in 2025.
O.K., CHEF. NOW WE'RE COOKING WITH GAS.
Junior UTIL Megan Grant is rounding into form, hitting for a .480 clip (12-for-25) and team-best 1.240 slugging percentage and 18 runs batted in over UCLA's last 10 games. She reached the 50-RBI plateau for the second time in her three-year career following Tuesday's performances. Grant has also tied her former season high of 15 home runs set during her freshman season in 2023. She currently boasts the best batting average of her career with a .370 mark (34-for-92) and leads the team with 14 multi-RBI performances.
SHOWING NO MERCY
UCLA tied the program single-season record for mercy-rule wins with 21 just 39 games into 2025 following Tuesday's offensive outbursts. The Bruins tie the mark previously set in both the 2010 and 2015 seasons. Additionally, UCLA has shut out its opponent 13 times, a mark that is good for fifth-best in the country and leads the Big Ten. On the year, UCLA is averaging 8.00 runs per game, which is good for ninth in the NCAA.
BRUINS DIG THE LONGBALL
UCLA has totaled 59 home runs through 39 games from 10 different players this season. The Bruins are averaging 1.51 home runs per game, which is their best mark since UCLA's 2010 NCAA title season (1.77 HR/G). That year, the Bruins set the program record for most home runs in a season with 108 over 61 games. UCLA's lineup boasts two of the top eight home run hitters in the country in juniors Jordan Woolery and Megan Grant with 16 and 15 home runs, respectively.
BRUIN NO-HITTERS THIS SEASON
UCLA has tossed two no-hitters this season with one apiece from junior RHP Taylor Tinsley and freshman RHP Addisen Fisher. The two no-no's brings the program's total to 125 and 117 of the solo variety.
March 8, at San Diego State: Taylor Tinsley recorded the second no-hitter of her career – and her first in seven innings – versus San Diego State at SDSU Softball Stadium on March 8. Tinsley struck out nine batters and allowed just two baserunners – one walk and one via fielding error – in her spectacular outing. Tinsley's first career no-hitter came in her collegiate debut versus CSU Bakersfield at Easton Stadium her freshman season in 2023. Her no-hitter versus the Aztecs came against a San Diego State program that has made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances and won the last three Mountain West Conference championships.
March 26, at Howard: Addisen Fisher threw the first no-hitter of her collegiate career and UCLA's second no-no of the season at Howard on March 26, going 5.0 innings while striking out six and allowing only two baserunners (one walk and one fielding error). Fisher did not let a ball leave the infield, recording six strikeouts and nine groundouts.
DOUBLE VISION
UCLA ranks third in the country with 72 doubles this season (1.84 2B/GM), already surpassing the full-season totals from 2024 (61) and 2023 (71). The Bruins' 1.84 doubles per game average puts the team on pace to set the program single-season record in both doubles and doubles per game. UCLA has recorded 100-plus doubles twice in program history (102 in 2002, 101 in 2010). The Bruins have logged four-plus doubles in a single game on eight occasions this season, including a season-high seven doubles versus Weber State on March 1, which was good for fourth-most in a single game in program history.
SLIMP SHADY
OF Rylee Slimp ranks third among Big Ten freshmen with a .410 batting average (41-for-100). The Georgetown, Texas native is on pace to be the sixth freshman in UCLA history to hit above a .400 clip and the first since Kelli Godin in 2019 (.418). The UCLA freshman batting average record is .457 (84-for-184) set by Stacey Nuveman in 1997. Other UCLA freshmen to have hit above .400 include Aaliyah Jordan (2018, .429 AVG), Stephany LaRosa (2012, .436 AVG) and Natasha Watley (2000, .426 AVG). This season, Slimp leads UCLA with five three-hit performances and has started every game in left field.
THE BEST SHOW IN TOWN
UCLA has drawn record crowds during each of its first two Big Ten Conference road trips in the team's first year in the new league. In game one of their series at Iowa on March 22, the Bruins performed in front of a max-capacity Bob Pearl Softball Field with 1,375 fans. One week later at Maryland, UCLA earned two wins with 1,000-plus fans in attendance for each of the last two games the series, ushering in crowds of 1,200 and 1,004, respectively.

Three players are currently hitting above .400 entering week eight of the 2025 season: INF Jordan Woolery (.447), UTIL Savannah Pola (.442) and OF Rylee Slimp (.410). UCLA has had two or more players hit above .400 for an entire season in 10 campaigns, last occurring in 2020 when Aaliyah Jordan and Briana Perez reached the benchmark. Only once have the Bruins had three players hit above .400, happening in 1995 thanks to Jennifer Brundage, Tanya Harding and Kelly Howard.
NOT TO BRAGG, BUT...
Freshman INF Kaniya Bragg tied the UCLA single-season record for hit-by-pitches with 17 after wearing a pitch back-to-back games of the Maryland series on March 29-30. Bragg needed just 37 games to tie Crissy Buck's original mark which was set in the Bruins' 64th and final game of the 2002 season.
GONE FISHIN'
Freshman RHP Addisen Fisher has started her collegiate career with a perfect 11-0 record in addition to posting a 2.16 earned run average and 68.0 innings pitched. Fisher is the only freshman in the nation and one of nine NCAA Division I pitchers to own a flawless record (min. 39.0 innings). The last UCLA freshman to win 11 or more games before drawing their first loss was Kaitlyn Terry who started last year 12-0. Fisher, from Bend, Ore., arrived at UCLA as the 2024 Gatorade Softball National Player of the Year and the consensus No. 1-ranked recruit in her class. Fisher is also the first player in program history to hail from the state of Oregon.
DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT
UCLA ranks second in NCAA DI with a .984 fielding percentage, committing 16 errors in 989 total chances. UCLA last finished the year ranked top 10 nationally in fielding percentage and with a .980-plus rate in the 2013 season (.980, 2nd).
This performance is amidst a reshuffling of infield positions due to freshman SS Aleena Garcia's season-ending injury. Beginning March 1 (16 games), junior Jordan Woolery moved from first base to third base, freshman Kaniya Bragg moved from third base to shortstop and junior Megan Grant moved from right field/designated player to first base as a result of the loss of Garcia.
GRANT MAKES HISTORY
Junior UTIL Megan Grant tied a 12-year-old UCLA record with a home run in five straight games from March 1-8, matching the original mark set by All-America outfielder B.B. Bates in 2013. Before Grant accomplished the feat, then-redshirt junior Maya Brady came next closest with a homer in four straight games in 2023. Grant's dominant five-game stretch matched her home run output coming into week five, improving her season total to 10.
OHIO STATE SERIES HISTORY
UCLA leads the all-time series versus Ohio State, 9-1, dating back to 1991 and is 3-0 all-time against the Buckeyes in its home venue. Ohio State last played at Easton Stadium in March of the 1996 season, resulting in a pair of mercy-rule wins for UCLA. The two programs last met in 2018 at Long Beach State where the Bruins mercy ruled the Buckeyes, 11-0, in five innings.
KT LEADS THE STAFF
Sophomore LHP Kaitlyn Terry leads UCLA's pitching staff with 13 wins, a 1.44 earned run average, 104 strikeouts, 87.2 innings pitched, a .187 opponent batting average, six complete games and a 0.84 WHIP. Terry's standout performance of the season thus far came against No. 22 Missouri on Feb. 20 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic when she struck out a career-high 14 batters and allowed just one run in a complete-game victory. She has three career double-digit strikeout performances.
Last year, Terry was named the 2024 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, clinching UCLA's fifth such honor over the past seven seasons. Terry became the seventh freshman in UCLA history to win 20-plus games (21-3) in her debut season and first since Garcia in 2017. Terry led last season's staff with 182.0 innings pitched and recorded a 2.38 ERA, 161 strikeouts and .232 opponent batting average.
CLEMENTS KEEPS CLIMBING
Graduate transfer outfielder Jessica Clements ranks eighth among active NCAA DI players in career hits (234) and 23rd in career batting average (.406). Clements, who has bat in the leadoff spot for 37 of 39 games, ranks third on the team and 39th in the country with 49 base hits this season. Additionally, the Bruins' table setter ranks second on the team with 14 multi-hit games in 2025 and leads UCLA career-wise with 66 such performances over her four years.
Clements recorded the 200th hit of her career with a bunt single versus Virginia at the Clearwater Invitational on Feb. 16. She leads UCLA with two three-hit performances and ranks second with six total multi-hit games. Clements was a two-time Big West Batting Champion in 2022 and 2024 while at Cal Poly for three seasons. She finished her Mustang career as the leading hitter in program history with a .411 batting average (185-for-450).
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
Senior UTIL Savannah Pola has shown drastic improvement compared to last season. Pola leads UCLA with 20 multi-hit games and ranks second on the team with a .442 batting average (57-for-129). The Santa Ana, Calif. product ranks third in the country with 15 doubles and 48 runs scored and sixth with 57 base hits. Pola entered conference play a year ago with a .190 batting average (8-for-42) with one extra-base hit through 17 games. She is now enjoying season highs in batting average (.442), slugging percentage (.744), home runs (6) and OPS (1.230).

Freshman RHP Addisen Fisher has started her collegiate career with a perfect 11-0 record in addition to posting a 2.16 earned run average and 68.0 innings pitched. Fisher is the only freshman in the nation and one of nine NCAA Division I pitchers to own a flawless record (min. 39.0 innings). The last UCLA freshman to win 11 or more games before drawing their first loss was Kaitlyn Terry who started last year 12-0. Fisher, from Bend, Ore., arrived at UCLA as the 2024 Gatorade Softball National Player of the Year and the consensus No. 1-ranked recruit in her class. Fisher is also the first player in program history to hail from the state of Oregon.
DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT
UCLA ranks second in NCAA DI with a .984 fielding percentage, committing 16 errors in 989 total chances. UCLA last finished the year ranked top 10 nationally in fielding percentage and with a .980-plus rate in the 2013 season (.980, 2nd).
This performance is amidst a reshuffling of infield positions due to freshman SS Aleena Garcia's season-ending injury. Beginning March 1 (16 games), junior Jordan Woolery moved from first base to third base, freshman Kaniya Bragg moved from third base to shortstop and junior Megan Grant moved from right field/designated player to first base as a result of the loss of Garcia.
GRANT MAKES HISTORY
Junior UTIL Megan Grant tied a 12-year-old UCLA record with a home run in five straight games from March 1-8, matching the original mark set by All-America outfielder B.B. Bates in 2013. Before Grant accomplished the feat, then-redshirt junior Maya Brady came next closest with a homer in four straight games in 2023. Grant's dominant five-game stretch matched her home run output coming into week five, improving her season total to 10.
OHIO STATE SERIES HISTORY
UCLA leads the all-time series versus Ohio State, 9-1, dating back to 1991 and is 3-0 all-time against the Buckeyes in its home venue. Ohio State last played at Easton Stadium in March of the 1996 season, resulting in a pair of mercy-rule wins for UCLA. The two programs last met in 2018 at Long Beach State where the Bruins mercy ruled the Buckeyes, 11-0, in five innings.
KT LEADS THE STAFF
Sophomore LHP Kaitlyn Terry leads UCLA's pitching staff with 13 wins, a 1.44 earned run average, 104 strikeouts, 87.2 innings pitched, a .187 opponent batting average, six complete games and a 0.84 WHIP. Terry's standout performance of the season thus far came against No. 22 Missouri on Feb. 20 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic when she struck out a career-high 14 batters and allowed just one run in a complete-game victory. She has three career double-digit strikeout performances.
Last year, Terry was named the 2024 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, clinching UCLA's fifth such honor over the past seven seasons. Terry became the seventh freshman in UCLA history to win 20-plus games (21-3) in her debut season and first since Garcia in 2017. Terry led last season's staff with 182.0 innings pitched and recorded a 2.38 ERA, 161 strikeouts and .232 opponent batting average.
CLEMENTS KEEPS CLIMBING
Graduate transfer outfielder Jessica Clements ranks eighth among active NCAA DI players in career hits (234) and 23rd in career batting average (.406). Clements, who has bat in the leadoff spot for 37 of 39 games, ranks third on the team and 39th in the country with 49 base hits this season. Additionally, the Bruins' table setter ranks second on the team with 14 multi-hit games in 2025 and leads UCLA career-wise with 66 such performances over her four years.
Clements recorded the 200th hit of her career with a bunt single versus Virginia at the Clearwater Invitational on Feb. 16. She leads UCLA with two three-hit performances and ranks second with six total multi-hit games. Clements was a two-time Big West Batting Champion in 2022 and 2024 while at Cal Poly for three seasons. She finished her Mustang career as the leading hitter in program history with a .411 batting average (185-for-450).
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
Senior UTIL Savannah Pola has shown drastic improvement compared to last season. Pola leads UCLA with 20 multi-hit games and ranks second on the team with a .442 batting average (57-for-129). The Santa Ana, Calif. product ranks third in the country with 15 doubles and 48 runs scored and sixth with 57 base hits. Pola entered conference play a year ago with a .190 batting average (8-for-42) with one extra-base hit through 17 games. She is now enjoying season highs in batting average (.442), slugging percentage (.744), home runs (6) and OPS (1.230).
