Senior midfielder Shaun Tsakiris (Saratoga, CA/Bellarmine Prep) of the UCLA Men's Soccer Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
Tsakiris came off the bench to score the game-winning goals in both of UCLA's victories this week. Against 1999 national finalist Santa Clara on Sept. 28, Tsakiris drew a foul in the box four and a half minutes into overtime and scored the game-winning goal on the ensuing penalty kick to give UCLA a 1-0 overtime victory.
Against St. Mary's Oct. 1, Tsakiris led the Bruins to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory. Tsakiris, who did not start due to a back injury suffered in the UC Irvine match Sept. 21, entered the game with his team down 2-1 and assisted on the equalizer and then scored the game-winning goal himself.
Tsakiris now has a career-high five goals to rank second on the team and also has 15 points and a team-leading five assists and three game-winning goals.
