Four-year (2008-11) varsity water polo letterwinner at Hoover High School under head coaches Ara Oganesyan (2008-10) and Kevin Witt (2011)...was a three-time first team All-CIF selection (2009-11) and a second team pick in 2008...named first-team All-Pacific League all four years and twice named league most valuable player (2010-11)...as a sophomore in 2009, he set the CIF single-season record for goals (229), a mark that was surpassed in 2011 by Nogales' Nick Estevez, who tallied 233 in leading his team to a Division VII championship...in his four years with the Tornadoes, his avalanche of scoring tallies added up to 593 career goals, which is second most all-time in both the CIF Southern Section and the state...led Hoover to the Division VI quarterfinals in 2009 and 2010...in his senior season (2011), Kaplanyan led Hoover with team-highs of 139 goals, 103 steals and 47 assists and a program-first CIF Semifinal berth.

Full name: Hakop Jack Kaplanyan...born Aug. 3, 1994 in Hollywood, Calif...his father is Garnik and his mother is Marine...has one older sister, Noyem...competed with the ORWP Club out of Glendale...also a member of an ODP (Olympic Development Program) Zone Practicing Team (Coastal California)...says he chose UCLA because "It is a great school and is really close to home"...lists playing basketball and soccer and doing DIY projects as his hobbies...has yet to declare a major.
