UCLA alumnus Owen Yancher joined the UCLA swim and dive program as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2022-23 season.

In his one season on staff, the Bruins posted a 6-3 record in dual meets. UCLA had plenty of success over the course of the season, setting five school records, breaking the 1,000-point barrier at the Pac-12 Championships for the first time since 2017, sending a group of sevenย to the NCAA Championships, and seeing five student-athletes earn All-America honors, the program's most since 2017.ย 

Prior to UCLA, Yancher spent the last decade coaching United States Master Swimming with Davis Aquatic Masters (2013-18, 2021) and Get Fit Davis Masters (2018-21). He has mentored student-athletes at several high school programs. Most recently, he was a member of the coaching staff at New Roads School in Santa Monica, helping train the Jaguarsโ€™ first-ever CIF-Southern Section Championships qualifier in 2022.

Prior to New Roads, Yancher worked at Davis Senior High School in Davis, Calif. During his tenure, the Lady Devils captured four conference titles and three consecutive Sac-Joaquin Section Championships (2017-19). Yancher was named the 2019 Sac-Joaquin Section Coach of the Year in the 2019. Under his tutelage, 18 Blue Devil swimmers earned individual NISCA All-America honors.

Yancher swam competitively for UCLAโ€™s menโ€™s club team while earning his masterโ€™s degree in the Transformative Coaching and Leadership program in 2022. A seven-time College Club Nationals individual qualifier, he specialized in sprint freestyle and breaststroke.

The Davis, Calif. native previously earned his bachelorโ€™s degree in communication from UC Davis in 2019, minoring in coaching principles and methods.

A Level II USMS Coach, Yancher was a 2019 California Interscholastic Federation Swim Coach of the Year nominee. He actively trains and competes as a Masters swimmer with UCLAโ€™s Bruin Masters swimming program.
