Women's Swimming And Diving Wins NU Invitational

UCLA Defeats Arizona State in Women's Swimming Dual Meet

LOS ANGELES-

The UCLA women's swimming and diving team opened up Pac-10 action on a strong note, defeating Arizona State, 179-118 this afternoon at Men's Gym Pool. UCLA improved its dual meet record to 3-0 (1-0 Pac-10) on the season. Diving events were contested at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center. Swimming events were contested in short course, yards.

Senior Beth Goodwin was the real standout of the meet as she claimed the 100 Fly title in an NCAA qualifying time of 55.04. Goodwin's time is one of the best times in the country thus far. Freshman Sara Plazter continued her sensational freshman campaign after capturing event titles in the 100 Free (51.01) and 200 free (1:52.15). The Bruins claimed victories in 14 of the 16 official events.

In diving, sophomore Regan Gosnell won the one-meter (256.50) and was the runner-up in the three-meter (275.55) competition. Both scores qualifies Gosnell for the NCAA Zone E Meet.

UCLA's women's swimming and diving team returns to action on Saturday, when they host top-ranked Arizona. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon at Men's Gym Pool. Diving will take place at USC's McDonald Swim Complex at 10 am.
