HONOLULU - Head coach Sue Enquist's UCLA softball team improved its record to 10-0 (4-0 Paradise Softball Classic) on Saturday with a 6-0 defeat of No. 15 Long Beach State. Junior All-American Courtney Dale picked up her fifth win of the season pitching a seven-inning shutout.
Dale was also a key factor at the plate, hitting a three-run home run to go along with Julie Marshall's RBI single to give the Bruins a four-run third inning. UCLA added two more in the fourth, when Lupe Brambila and Amanda Freed scored on a sacrifice fly by Lyndsey Klein.
Despite allowing eight hits, the Bruins held Long Beach scoreless by playing error-free defense.
The Bruins conclude Paradise Softball Classic round-robin play late Saturday evening, facing off against the host Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine at 9:00 p.m. Hawaii Time (11 p.m. Pacific Time). Championship play for the tournament begins on Sunday.
