STANFORD, CA - The Bruin women's volleyball team completed a successful trip to the Bay Area with a 3-0 defeat of Stanford on Saturday night, UCLA's first victory in Maples Pavilion since a 3-2 win in 1993. With the win, UCLA is now 9-3 overall, 4-0 in the Pac-10 conference while Stanford falls to 7-4, 2-2.

In the opening game of the match, the Bruins and Cardinal played it close, with neither team holding more than a two-point lead prior to the Bruins gaining an 11-8 lead, followed by a Stanford timeout. UCLA earned its first game point at 14-10, but was unable to convert, but kills by Ashley Bowles and Lauren Fendrick ended the game with a 15-11 UCLA win. In the match's first game, UCLA's Kristee Porter hit .500, converting 12 kills on 20 attacks with just two errors.

The Bruins started hot in game two, opening with a 5-0 lead before Stanford's first timeout of the game. The UCLA onslaught didn't stop there, as Stanford did not score their first point of the game until after the Bruins had failed to convert on their first game point. Amid five more game points for UCLA and 12 sideouts, the Cardinal scratched out two points before a service ace from Krystal McFarland, the fifth of the match for UCLA, ended the game with a 15-2 win. Stanford has not been held to just two points in a game since the 1999 NCAA Championship match against Penn State last December.

Game three saw six ties, as late as 10-10 before UCLA was able to pull away and take the game, 15-11. In the game, the Bruins hit .353 with 26 kills. Kristee Porter finished the match with 26 kills on 43 attacks with five errors for a match attack percentage of .488. Senior middle blocker Elisabeth Bachman completed her weekend with a 10 kill, four block performance. A day before her 21st birthday, senior Michelle Quon posted 10 digs, joining Porter who had 11 digs for a double-double. Lauren Fendrick had another impressive night at the service line, posting four aces, while Ashley Bowles finished with 16 kills.

The Bruins return to action on Thursday night in Westwood, playing host to Oregon State, followed by Oregon on Friday. Both matches are scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve at Pauley Pavilion, and will be broadcast live on www.uclabruins.com.
