UCLA in First Place after Round 1 at Stanford

The UCLA women's golf team is in first place after the first round at the Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiates, hosted by Stanford on its campus course.

The Bruins posted a team score of five-over par 293 and lead second-place Washington by two shots. California is third at 296, followed by Vanderbilt at 302. Stanford and Georgia are tied for fifth at 303.

Individually, the Bruins placed all five players and their individual competitor among the Top 20. Sophomore Yvonne Choe is tied for fifth place with an even par 72, followed by Gina Umeck, who is tied for seventh at 73. Sophomore Charlotte Mayorkas, junior Saki Uechi and senior Vivan Phosomran, who is playing as an individual, are tied for 11th place at 74. Freshman Susie Mathews is tied for 19th at 75.

Four players, including Cal's Vikki Laing, are tied for first place at one-under par 71.

Second round action continues Saturday.
