Sept. 26, 2003

The 13th-ranked UCLA women's golf team raced out to a six-shot lead after the first round of the Mason Rudolph Championship, hosted by Vanderbilt University at its Legends Golf Course in Franklin, TN.

The Bruins posted a team score of 281, seven-under par, and lead second place Florida by six shots. The Bruins' total of 281 set a single round school scoring record, breaking one they set last season at the San Jose State Invitational.

Freshman Hannah Jun blistered the 6,276-yard course with a five-under par round of 67, which matched the tournament record. Jun's score, one shot off the UCLA single round record, put her in first place. Not far behind are junior All-American Charlotte Mayorkas and senior Bridget Dwyer, who each posted one-under par scores of 71. Senior Gina Umeck posted an even par 72 and sophomore Susie Mathews carded a 75.

Second round action continues Saturday.
