Bruins Win the Regional Challenge

The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team won the Northrop-Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Club on Wednesday. Junior Charlotte Mayorkas won medalist honors and teammate Susie Mathews tied for second place.

The Bruins posted a 54-hole team score of 876, 24-over par, and beat second place New Mexico by 32 shots. Ohio State placed third at 914, followed by fourth-place Arizona at 919 and fifth-place USC at 921.

Mayorkas, who began the final round with a seven-stroke lead, won by 10 shots, compiling a 54-hole total of six-under par 207. Her one-over par round of 72 on Wednesday was her highest score of the tournament, but the second-best score of the day.

Mathews posted a final round of 73 and tied for second place at 217, four-over par, with Tulsa's Julie Tvede.

"We played the way we wanted to play [at this tournament]," said Mathews.

Senior Krystal Shearer tied for 13th at 226, freshman Hannah Jun tied for 34th at 233 and senior Gina Umeck tied for 38th at 234.

Senior Bridget Dwyer, playing as an individual, tied for 22nd at 233.
