The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team vaulted into the 36-hole lead Saturday. The Bruins hold a three-shot lead over defending NCAA champion USC at the PING/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Course in Tempe, AZ.

The Bruins posted a four-under par team score of 284 in the second round and built a three-shot lead at the 36-hole mark. Friday's round was suspended because of electrical storms and completed Saturday morning. The Bruins recorded a score of 295, seven over par in the first round and own a 36-hole total of 579, three-over par. USC is second at 582, followed by third-place New Mexico at 588 and fourth-place California at 592. Texas and Arizona are tied for fifth at 593.

Individually for the Bruins, senior Gina Umeck and junior Charlotte Mayorkas are tied for third place at two-under par 142. After a two-over par first round score of 74, Umeck rallied with six birdies and a career collegiate best score of 68 (-4) in the second round. The round also marked the first time Umeck posted collegiate score below 70. Mayorkas posted a pair of 71s. Both players are tied with Arizona's Erica Blasberg and Lisa Ferrero of Texas.

The Bruins' Krystal Shearer followed a 76 in the first round with two-under par 70 in the second round and is tied for 12th at 146 (+2). Freshman Hannah Jun is tied for 24th at 149 (+5) and sophomore Susie Mathews is tied for 47th at 153 (+9).

Washington's Paige Mackenzie holds a one-stroke lead at 140 (-4) over Pepperdine's Carolina Llano 141 (-3).
