The UCLA-USC battle in women's golf continued Tuesday at El Caballero Country Club with the Bruins falling by two shots to finish second in another head-to-head battle with their arch-rivals.
UCLA, ranked 20th in one poll, entered the day with an eight-shot lead only to see it evaporate on the outward nine as USC, ranked a consensus No.1, played the first nine in one-under par. The Bruins were seven-over par going out.
On the back nine, things got more interesting. After falling behind by four shots, the Bruins tied it midway through the inward side, but a double bogey at the 16th by freshman Louise Ridderstrom put her at six-over par. At that point, senior Lee Lopez was already six-over par before she bogeyed the 17th. Meanwhile, the Trojans played the final three holes in one-over par and won their second straight start against the Bruins.
On the final leader board, USC finished on top with a 54-hole score of 884 (+20) and a final round best score of 293 (+5). The Bruins posted a 303 (+15) on Tuesday for a three-round total of 886 (+22). Arizona was third at 896 (+32), followed by Pepperdine in fourth place at 922 (+58) and Oregon State in fifth at 924 (+60).
Individually for the Bruins, senior Tiffany Lua moved up four spots on the leader board Tuesday, finishing in a tie for second at 219 (+3). She posted a score of 71 (-1) in the last round. Lopez placed fifth at 221 (+5), following a 79 (+7) and Ridderstrom tied for seventh at 223 (+7), following her round of 78 (+6). Junior Ani Gulugian and sophomore Erynee Lee finished 14th and 15th, respectively. Gulugian posted a 75 (+3) on Tuesday for a 54-hole total of 226 (+10), and Lee carded a 79 (+7) for a score of 227 (+11). Freshman walk-on Jacquie LeMarr, playing as an individual, tied for 60th at 247 (+31).
USC's Annie Park won the event with a 54-hole score of 215 (-1), following her round of 71 (-1) on Tuesday.
