The no. 5 ranked UCLA Women's Golf Team ended their second round of NCAA play at the East Regional in 8th today, setting themselves up for a key final round at Auburn University Golf Club.
The Bruins shot 298 (+10), the 10th best score of the round, leaving their two-day total at 586(+10) and the Bruins themselves tied with Tennessee for the 8th and final qualification slot. Because only the top eight teams at the regional will advance, the Bruins will have to spend Saturday's final round fending off a number of competitors and jumping at least one spot forward. Among others, the University of Northwestern is lurking in 10th at 590(+14).
Senior Lee Lopez, despite carding a 75(+3) for the round, birdied her final hole of the day to jump the Bruins forward and into a tie with the Vols. Senior Tiffany Lua and sophomore Erynne Lee led the team for UCLA with a 74(+2) each, one stroke ahead of Lopez and junior Ani Gulugian at 75(+3). Louise Ridderstrom rounded out the scoring for UCLA, with the freshman shooting a 78(+6).
#2 Alabama turned the gap at the top into a chasm, as the Tide rolled with a 277(-11) to list the day's best score by seven strokes and take a commanding 30-stroke lead into day three. Further down the board, hosts Auburn shot Friday's second-best score with a 284(-4) to slide up to 583(+6) over 36 holes and into 7th. #11 North Carolina sits in 6th, with a total of 582(+6).
The final round will begin Saturday morning. Tee times for day three will be listed here.
