GREENSBORO, N.C. - A pair of Bruins set school records on Thursday on the second day of the 2014 AT&T Winter National Championships. Junior Katy Campbell rose to the top of the UCLA charts in the 500 Freestyle, while sophomore Linnea Mack became the new leader in the 50 Free. A total of six Bruins made the individual evening finals.

500 Freestyle
In the first race of the morning, Campbell reached the A final with a career-best 4:42.27, the fifth-best time in the preliminaries. It not only improved her NCAA 'B' qualifying time, but also improved her second position on UCLA's all-time list. Three other Bruins, seniors Monica Dornick (55th, 4:54.23) and Ally Loper (57th, 4:54.57) and freshman Anna Quinn (60th, 4:55.32) also swam in the event.

In the final, Campbell broke Lauren Baker's school record (4:42.20) with a 4:40.53, finishing seventh in the evening session.

200 Individual Medley
Both Bruins in the 200 Individual Medley reached the C final and posted NCAA 'B' qualifying marks. Senior Noelle Tarazona was 18th in the prelims with a 2:00.60, while junior Arlyn Upshaw ranked 24th in the morning with a career-best 2:00.79.

Upshaw improved her career-best time in the C final, finishing third in the race with a mark of 1:59.98. It also put her at eighth on UCLA's all-time list for the 200 IM. Tarazona was sixth in the C final (2:01.23).

50 Freestyle
Mack set a new UCLA record with a 22.03 in the prelims to finish second in the morning, just .01 behind first place. The career-best mark improved her NCAA 'B' time and moved her into the A final.

Also reaching the evening swims were Dornick and junior Katie Kinnear. Dornick made the B race with a career-best 22.96, finishing 15th in the prelims and setting an NCAA 'B' time. Kinnear was 20th with a 23.07 to reach the C final. Also competing in the 50 Free were freshmen Sarah Kaunitz (27th, 23.23), Katie Grover (29th, 23.24) and Maddy Burnham (61st, 23.77).

In the A final, it was a razor-thin finish, but Mack was just out-touched by .03, finishing in second with a time of 22.15. Dornick placed fourth in the B race with a 22.83, bettering her personal best and NCAA 'B' time. In the C final, Kinnear was second at 22.94 to set an NCAA 'B' qualifying mark and a career best.

400 Medley Relay
The evening wrapped up with a third-place finish, as sophomore Madison White, senior Jessica Khojasteh, Grover and Mack posted a time of 3:36.31. Mack's anchor split was 47.97, besting the previous record in 2008 by Anna Poteete (48.45). The UCLA B team of Kinnear, senior Taylor Carlson, Tarazona and Dornick were fifth (3:38.57).

On Friday, five individual events are on tap, the 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Free, 100 Breaststroke and 100 Backstroke, along with the 200 Free Relay. Upshaw and freshman MK Kish will swim in the 400 IM. Seven are slated for the 100 Fly, Burnham, Grover, Kinnear, Mack, Quinn, Tarazona and Upshaw.

Campbell, Dornick, Loper and Quinn will swim in the 200 Free, while Carlson, Kaunitz, Khojasteh and sophomore Brigitte Winkler will take part in the 100 Breast. Grover, Kinnear, Mack and White swim in the 100 Back, while the Bruins will have a pair of teams in the 200 Free Relay.
