
Bruins Tie for Second at SMU Classic

LEWISVILLE, Texas -- Led by sophomore Maria Polyakova, the Bruins tied for second at the SMU Classic on Saturday. Polyakova posted the top mark in both diving events at the season-opener, earning her the meet's High Point Diver honor.

Between the lane lines, the Bruins kicked off day two action with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Linnea Mack, Emma Schanz, Katie Grover, and Caroline McTaggart posted a 1:40.04 in the relay.
In the 500 Free, freshman Sandra Soe swam a 4:48.90 to finish third and fellow Bruin newcomer Mary Pelton placed 10th with a 4:56.61. Emma Schanz made a solid third-place showing in the 200 Breast (2:12.78), while senior Katie Kinnear posted a personal best (2:22.87) to finish 11th.
Other notable finishes include second-place showings from junior Madison White in the 200 Back, Grover in the 200 Fly, Schanz in the 200 IM, and McTaggart in the 100 Free. McTaggart posted a new personal best (48.67) in the event, finishing .07 seconds behind Kelsi Worrell of Louisville. The Bruin 200 Free Relay team also placed second with a time of 1:31.15 (McTaggart, Mack, Grover, White).
Next up, the Bruins head to Santa Barbara to take on UCSB and Oregon State. The meet will begin at 12 p.m. PT on Saturday, Oct. 24.
