The Bruins never trailed in winning the opening set. UCLA scored the first three on kills by Anderson and Frager and a combo block by the duo. Oregon State got as close as one on two occasions, but could not even the score. At 7-5, a 4-1 run on kills by freshman Kyra Rogers and Felix, an Anderson/Felix combo block and an OSU attack error made it 11-6.
At 19-16, the Bruins scored four of five to go ahead by six. Kills by Buechler and Anderson and two Beaver errors made it 23-17. After an OSU sideout, an Anderson kill and a Rogers/Frager block finished up the 25-18 victory. Buechler posted five kills in the opener, while Anderson added four. Inouye had five digs and Formico recorded four, as the Bruins out-hit the Beavers .265 to .081.
After never leading in the first set, it looked like Oregon State might go wire-to-wire in the second, but UCLA used a late 16-5 run to go ahead 2-0 in the match. The Beavers' largest lead was five at 7-2, 9-4 and 14-9. The Bruins evened things up with the next five points on two Frager kills, one by Buechler and two OSU attack errors. Down 16-15, the Bruins netted three in a row on a Felix/Buechler combo, a Beaver attack error and a Muno kill to take an 18-16 edge.
After a sideout, four in a row on kills by Buechler and Anderson and two OSU attack errors made it 22-17. At 23-19, a Frager/Anderson block and an Anderson kill wrapped up the 25-19 win. Anderson led the Bruins with five kills in the second, as the Bruins hit .111 and held Oregon State to a .000 mark. Formico recorded eight digs and Drolson added five.
The third set featured 15 ties and eight lead changes. The Bruins had a match point, but the Beavers would extend the contest. Oregon State held three-point leads at 7-4, 8-5 and 13-10. UCLA scored four straight on two OSU errors, a Frager kill and a block by Frager and redshirt junior Haley Lawless to go up 14-13, but the Beavers went back ahead by a pair at 17-15.
The score would be tied at 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24, as the Bruins saved one OSU set point. Back-to-back Buechler kills gave UCLA a 25-24 edge, but Oregon State netted the last three of the set to take the third 27-25. Anderson led the Bruins with six kills, Frager added five and Buechler posted four. Formico recorded six digs and Drolson added five, as the Bruins were out-hit .263 to .196.
After falling behind 6-4 in the fourth set, the Bruins went on a 10-1 run to break it open. Down 8-7, a Rogers kill, a Buechler/Frager block and an OSU attack error made it 10-8 Bruins. After a sideout, UCLA scored seven in a row. Buechler had four kills during the run, with an additional one by Felix, who teamed up with Rogers on a couple of blocks to make it 17-9.
The Bruins' lead remained between five and eight for the rest of the set, as a Buechler kill on UCLA's second match point closed out the 25-19 victory. Buechler led the way with five kills in the fourth, Anderson added four and Felix posted three. Formico notched five digs, as the Bruins out-hit the Beavers .294 to .028.
The Bruins begin a three-match road swing next week in the desert. First up is a visit to #21 Arizona State on Friday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. PT. The contest will air on Pac-12 Networks.
