UCLA Tied for Lead at Pac-12 Preview

KOHALA, Hawai'i - Following 36 holes of golf on Monday at Nanea Golf Club, the Bruins are tied with Arizona State for the top spot at the Pac-12 Preview. 

The 10-team field had a shotgun start on Monday and the Bruins were tied for first with Arizona after 18 holes with a 2-under 290. UCLA was 13 shots worse on its second 18 holes, but stayed tied for first, this time with the Sun Devils at +9 (593).

Senior Louise Ridderström was sharp in her opening round, making seven birdies on holes #2, #4, #5, #7, #13, #17 and #18. She also made four bogeys and ended up shooting a 3-under 70. In her second 18, Ridderström again had birdies at the second and 18th, but also recorded six bogeys and shot a 4-over 77. She is tied for sixth heading into Tuesday's final round at 1-over (147).

Freshman Bethany Wu shot rounds of even-par 73 and 3-over 76 to put her in a tie for 13th at +3 (149). In her first 18 holes, Wu had four birdies (#9, #10, #16, #18) to go with four bogeys. She again birdied four holes in her second round (#3, #6, #14, #17), but also made four bogeys and a triple.

Wu is tied with sophomore Lydia Choi, who is playing as an individual. She was 1-over (74) in the first round and +2 (75) in the second. Choi had birdies on holes #6, #17 and #18 in the first round to go with four bogeys. In her second round, she made birdies on #5, #6, #8, #14, as well as two bogeys and two doubles.

Junior Bronte Law, the Pac-12 Golfer of October after a win at the Stanford Intercollegiate, was bogey free in her opening round, shooting 4-under with birdies on the fourth, eighth, 12th and 18th. In posting her fifth straight round under par, Law was in the lead by one shot. However, she struggled in her second 18 holes with six bogeys and a triple, shooting a 9-over 82. She is tied for 21st after two rounds at 5-over (151).

Freshman Lilia Vu was four shots better in the afternoon, going 5-over (78) on the first 18 and 1-over (74) on the second. In her first round, she had birdies on the third, eighth and 13th, but also made eight bogeys. She had three birdies in a four-hole stretch in round two (#10, #11, #13), with four bogeys. She is tied for 24th at 6-over (152).

Sophomore Erin Choi was two shots better in the afternoon, shooting a 5-over (78) on the first 18 and a 3-over (76) on the second. Choi made two birdies in her first round at the fourth and seventh, with five bogeys and a double. On her second 18, she had birdies at the second and 18th, with three bogeys and a double. Choi is tied for 31st at 8-over (154).

It will be another shotgun start for the field on Tuesday, starting at 9:30 a.m. PT (7:30 a.m. local) in the order of Ridderström, Wu, Law, Vu and Erin Choi. Lydia Choi will start at the same time.
