TEMPE, Ariz. -- Shaking off Friday's loss to Arizona, the UCLA swimming and diving squad cruised past Arizona State, 180-116, in Saturday's dual meet. The Bruin freshmen made the biggest splash, as Caroline McTaggart, Sandra Soe, and Emma Schanz each posted double wins at the event.
McTaggart swam the top marks in the 100 Free and 100 Fly. Her 54.31 in the 100 Fly was good enough for an NCAA "B" qualifying time.
Soe won both distance freestyle events. In the 1000 Free, Soe crushed the competition, finishing nine seconds ahead of the second place mark. In the 500 Free, the Bruin newcomer swam a 4:58.59, edging teammate Michaela Merlihan.
Schanz posted wins in the 100 Back (56.43) and the 200 Breast (2:18.97).
In diving, Maria Polyakova won the 3-meter event with a 304.70 while Annika Lenz finished second with a 276.95. Polyakova was just shy of another sweep of the diving events, as ASU's Mara Aiacoboae edged the Bruin by 1.05 points.
Next up, UCLA diving heads across town for the Trojan Diving Invitational, to be held Nov. 13-15. Bruin swimming has a short hiatus before hitting the pool for the A3 Invitational in Monterey Park, Calif. The event will take place Nov. 19-21.
