
Eighth-Ranked Bruins Slug Their Way to Another Win Over Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - The eighth-ranked Bruins established a season high in runs on Saturday and tied a season best in hits and home runs, as UCLA defeated Stanford 18-3 in five innings at Smith Family Stadium.
UCLA, which improves to 34-8 overall and 8-3 in Pac-12 play, had six players produce multiple-hit games, nine post at least one hit, four go for at least two runs batted in, nine record at least one RBI and 12 score at least one run.
Sophomore Gabrielle Maurice went 3-for-3, senior Ally Carda had two hits and four RBI, senior Stephany LaRosa went 2-for-2 with three RBI and three runs scored, junior Mysha Sataraka was 2-for-2 and juniors Allexis Bennett and Brittany Moeai each had a pair of hits. Senior Gracie Goulder and sophomore Delaney Spaulding both drove in two runs.
In the circle, freshman Selina Ta'amilo (6-2) struck out five in five innings of relief, giving up a run, two hits and one walk. She had 1-2-3 innings in the third and fifth and struck out two in the second. Freshman Johanna Grauer started and allowed two runs and three walks.
The Bruins scored a pair in their first at-bat. With one out, Spaulding homered to left to take the team lead with eight. LaRosa and Moeai followed with singles and a sacrifice fly to left by freshman Kylee Perez scored LaRosa to put UCLA up 2-0.
Stanford (16-24, 1-10 Pac-12) equaled the score in the bottom of the first when Erin Ashby drew a bases-loaded walk to score Hanna Winter and Kaitlin Schaberg drove in Tylyn Wells on a fielder's choice grounder.
UCLA came back with eight runs in both the third and fourth innings. LaRosa and Moeai led off the third with walks, and one out later, a free pass to freshman Maddy Jelenicki loaded the bases. A single to left by Maurice scored LaRosa to make it 3-2, while Goulder singled to right to bring in senior Jessica Amaral, who was running for Moeai, and Jelenicki to increase the lead to 5-2.
The Bruins would re-load the bases and a walk to Spaulding forced in Goulder with UCLA's sixth run. A wild pitch scored Bennett to make it 7-2 and a three-run shot by LaRosa to left gave the Bruins a 10-2 lead. The senior hit her eighth homer of the season to tie Spaulding for the team lead.
In the fourth, the Bruins had the bases loaded and one out when Bennett singled to left to score Sataraka to make it 11-2. Carda followed with a grand slam to left, her fifth jack of the season, to up the lead to 15-2. One out later, LaRosa walked and was pinch-run for by senior Kaelin Sprawls, who moved to second on a Moeai single and scored when Perez reached on a fielder's choice grounder to second to make it 16-2. A single up the middle by Sataraka scored Moeai with the Bruins' 17th run, while a pinch-hit single for senior Tara Mueller plated Perez to make it 18-2.
Stanford closed out the scoring with a one-out homer in the bottom of the fourth by Bessie Noll.
