Salt Lake City, Utah โ The No. 18 UCLA swim team swept Utah and Boise State this weekend at the Ute Natatorium in Salt Lake City.ย The Bruins dominated the Utes, 182-95, while edging the Broncos, 133-128.ย
Meet Highlights
The Bruins kicked off the meet with two top-five finishes in the 200 Medley Relay.ย The A squadโLinnea Mack, Emma Schanz, Katie Kinnear, and Katie Groverโposted a 1:44.31 to finish second, while the B squadโMadison White, Brigette Winkler, Madison Applegate, and Sarah Kaunitzโplaced fourth with a 1:45.64.ย
Juniorย Michaela Merlihan and freshmanย Sandra Soe recorded the top two times in the 1000 Free.ย Merlihan finished first with a 10:24.53, and Soe swam a 10:26.93 to place second.
In the 200 Free, three Bruins placed in the top 10.ย Freshman Caroline McTaggart recorded the third-best time (1:53.30), while Applegate (1:55.13) and Mary Pelton (1:55.25) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.ย
The Bruins swept the 200 Fly as Kinnear, White, and MP Delisle finished 1, 2, 3 in the event.ย Later on, Kinnear placed second in the 100 Fly ahead of McTaggart and Applegate.ย
McTaggart notched another win for the Bruins when she swam the top time in the 100 Free (51.77).ย Alex Hubel, Kaunitz, and Savannah Steffen placed eighth, ninth, and 10th in the event, respectively.ย
White topped the field in the 200 Back.ย Her 2:01.21 bested the competition by three seconds.ย Arlyn Upshaw placed third with a 2:05.05, while Delisle finished fifth (2:07.30).
Schanz won the 200 Breast for the Bruins with a 2:17.76 and finished second in the 400 IM behind teammate Upshaw.ย Upshaw swam a 4:27.97 to finish two seconds ahead of Schanz.ย
The Bruins closed the meet the way they began it, finishing second and fourth in a relay.ย Mack, McTaggart, Applegate, and White recorded the second-best time (3:24.53) in the 400 Free Relay, while Hubel, Kaunitz, Kinnear, and Pelton placed fourth (3:30.53).ย
The Bruins are back in action Jan. 29 and 30 when they host Stanford and California at Spieker Aquatics Center. ย The meet against Stanford will be televised on Pac-12 Networks. ย ย ย ย ย ย
