Bruins Host Pink Meet on Saturday
October 19, 2016 | Swimming & Diving
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Fresh off a fourth-place finish at the SMU Classic last weekend, the No. 19 UCLA swimming and diving teams return home to host UC Davis, Oregon State, UC Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Florida Gulf Coast University on Saturday. Action will begin at 12 p.m. PT at Spieker Aquatics Center.
Last time out, the Bruins kicked off their 2016-17 campaign at the SMU Classic in Lewisville, Texas. Emma Schanz nabbed UCLA's lone first-place finish of the meet. The sophomore swam a 4:09.52 in the 400 IM, besting her 2015-16 top-time in the event by more than six seconds.
Throughout the two-day invitational, the Bruins recorded 11 top-five individual finishes between the lane lines. On the boards, junior Ciara Monahan posted a third-place finish in the 1-meter final followed by a fifth-place finish in the 3-meter event. The UCLA relay squads placed in the top five in all four relays.
On Saturday, the Bruins will also be competing for a greater cause. Please join UCLA in the quest to find a cure for cancer: the opponent that affects everyone.
Admission to the meet is $5 and PINK UCLA Swimming and Diving shirts will be available to purchase for $15. All proceeds will benefit the Iris Cantor-UCLA Women's Health Center. At last year's Breast Cancer Awareness meet against Stanford, the Bruins raised $1,645.00.
Fans are encouraged to wear pink to honor those we have lost, but also to celebrate the survivors among us. If you are unable to attend but would like to help support this cause, please click here.
