Bruins Fall to Duke in East Lake Cup Semifinals

ATLANTA, Ga. - Senior Bronte Law and freshman Clare Legaspi each won their matches in Tuesday's match play semifinals at the East Lake Cup, but the fifth-ranked Bruins dropped the other three points to fall 3-2 to #23 Duke at the East Lake Golf Club.
The Bruins will play Stanford in the consolation final on Wednesday to close out the fall schedule. Live scoring will be available here.

Law was the first Bruin out of the gate on Tuesday, taking on Sandy Choi, and took an early lead with a win on the third hole. Her lead reached 2-up on the seventh, but Choi responded with wins on #10 and #11 to draw all square. However, Law never trailed in the match, winning the 12th, 14th and 16th to close out Choi 3 and 2.
Legaspi was a 2-up winner over Lisa Maguire. Legaspi claimed the second hole to go up early before Maguire came back with wins on #3 and #5, taking a 1-up edge to the back nine. Legaspi then won back-to-back holes on #10 and #11 and led throughout the rest of the match, taking the 18th to give the Bruins their second point.
Vu was the second Bruin on the course, but fell 5 and 3 to Virginia Elena Carta. The front nine was a back-and-forth affair, with seven of the holes going one way or the other. Vu won #1, #5 and #9, while Carta took #3, #4, #6 and #7 to take a 1-up lead to the back nine. Carta extended her advantage with wins at #11, #12 and #14, closing out Vu on the 15th.
Galdiano lost to Leona Maguire 4 and 2. Galdiano took a lead on the second, but dropped #4, #5, #6 and #8 before getting another win on the ninth to make the turn 2-down. Maguire would go on to win #14 and ended the match on the 16th.
Wu fell 3 and 2 to Ana Belac. After Belac claimed the third, Wu won the fourth, but fell back to 2-down with losses on #7 and #8. Belac made the turn with wins on #10 and #11. Wu cut her deficit to 3-down with a win at the 12th, but the remainder of the holes were halved.
