PLEASANTON, Calif. - Birdies were plentiful during day one of the Pac-12 Championships at the Ruby Hill Golf Club, as the top-ranked Bruins shot a 6-under 282 to put them four strokes back of USC.
A trio of Bruins, junior Bronte Law and freshmen Lilia Vu and Bethany Wu, are tied for fifth at 2-under (70) after 18 holes. Law birdied three holes on her opening nine, the third, the fourth and the eighth, adding another one on #12 before bogeys on the 13th and 14th.
Vu had three birdies in her opening round on the third, fourth and 18th holes, with her lone blemish on the scorecard coming on #17. Wu paced the Bruins with five birdies on Monday, gaining strokes on the first, third, 10th, 14th and 16th. She had three bogeys on #11, #15 and #17.
Senior Louise Ridderström and junior Hadas Libman are both tied for 22nd after each shot an even-par 72. Ridderström made three birdies on the first, 12th and 18th to go with bogeys on #3, #8 and #17. Libman had three birdies on #4, #6 and #11 and three bogeys on the ninth, 14th and 16th.
Just as the top two-ranked teams in the nation did on Monday, UCLA and USC will tee off together in the second round, starting at 9:50 a.m., in the order of Libman, Ridderström, Wu, Vu and Law. Live scoring will be available here.
