
Polyakova Claims Lead on Final Dive, Wins 1M

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Bruin Diving Invitational concluded Sunday and junior Maria Polyakova's final dive in the 1-meter proved the difference. Polyakova's first-place finish was her second of the weekend and capped a successful three days for the team.

USC freshman Naomi Gowlett led the competition at the conclusion of prelims and for the majority of the final round until Polyakova's final dive secured a 615.55-614.20 advantage and first-place finish. Senior Annika Lenz finished fourth with a score of 556.20, while junior Ciara Monahan (493.65, 11th), sophomore Madeline Russell (487.70, 13th) and sophomore Kat Friese (467.05, 16th) also advanced to the finals.
The 1-meter event concluded the Bruin Diving Invitational, which also included a first-place finish by Polyakova in the women's 3-meter and a win by USC sophomore Madison Witt in the women's platform. Bruins Monahan, Friese and Lenz finished 4-5-6 in the 3-meter, while Lenz recorded a third-place score in the platform.
Next up for swimming and diving is a trip up north to Stanford for a Friday meet that will begin at 2:00 p.m. PT.
