SEATTLE, Wash. -ย Junior Zana Muno tallied 25 digs, senior Sarah Sponcil recorded 30 assists, 10 digs and two aces and sophomore Madeleine Gates had 11 kills, but the 13th-ranked Bruins fell in three at #14 Washington on Sunday at Alaska Airlines Arena. Set scores were 21-25, 16-25, 23-25.
Senior Reily Buechlerย had nine kills and six digs, freshman Jenny Mosser posted seven kills and eight digs, freshman Mac May added five kills, sophomore Savvy Simoย notched 10 digs and freshman Anne Crouch had five digs. The Bruins hit .121 for the match.
The Bruins never led in the first set, dropping eight of the first nine, with the seven-point advantage being Washington's largest of the opener. Still down 13-8, the Bruins scored four in a row on three Washington errors and a kill by junior Kyra Rogers to get to within one, but they would get no closer. UCLA saved four set points thanks to a Mosser kill, two Sponcil aces and a UW attack error, but dropped the first 25-21. Gates was error-free in the first with five kills in seven attempts, while Muno added nine digs, as the Bruins were out-hit .154 to .024.
UCLA scored three of the first four of set two on a Rogers kill and ace and a May kill, and still led by a pair at 6-4 until the home team went on a 15-3 run to go up by double figures at 19-9. The Huskies would go on to win the second by a score of 25-16. Buechler and May each had three kills and were error-free with seven and six swings, respectively, while Muno posted eight more digs, as the Bruins were out-hit .412 to .121.
