LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA swimming and diving team will face off with a pair of Pac-12 foes this weekend when they head to the desert to face No. 24 Arizona and Arizona State. The first event against the Wildcats will begin Friday at 2:00 p.m. (PT), while competition against the Sun Devils will commence Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
The Arizona State meet will be broadcast on the ASU live stream HERE.
Despite an Oct. 21 loss at UC Santa Barbara, the Bruins got back in the win column with a sweep at their annual Pink Meet Oct. 28. UCLA tallied wins against UC Davis (207-87), Arkansas (162.50-131.50) and Washington State (152-104) in its home opener. Katie Grover, Kenisha Liu, Emma Schanz and Sandra Soe each recorded two individual victories for the Bruins, who captured 10 of 14 events.
In Arizona, UCLA will face a team with two results in the booksโboth against Pac-12 foes. The Wildcats opened their season Oct. 14 in Pullman, Wash., where they defeated Washington State, 161-101. Swimmers Hannah Cox and Cameron McHugh posted multiple wins against the Cougars. Led again by Cox, Arizona registered its second win, 185-77 versus Utah, on Oct. 28.
Last season, the home Bruins narrowly defeated the Wildcats by a 155.5-144.5 margin. UCLA took the lead down the stretch, but would not secure the victory until the 1-Meter diving competition, which Eloise Belanger took with a score of 312.53 to sweep the springboard events.
The Sun Devils also hold a 2-0 record, defeating Utah (207.5-92.5) and Florida State (152.5-147.5) to open their season. The Oct. 27 win over the Utes featured victories by a number of newcomers, as well as one in the 3-Meter by senior diver Mara Aiacoboae, who is back after winning the Pac-12 title in the Platform.
The Bruins captured the 200 Medley Relay to open last season's home meet against the Sun Devils and never looked back with each of the first three individual events. Returning UCLA swimmers Margaux Verger Gourson and Kenisha Liu were among those victors. Then-freshman Amy Okada also had a big day. Bruins also took spots 1-3 in the 1-Meter diving competition, with Belanger taking the top one. The Montreal, QC, Canada native would eventually make it another clean sweep, also taking the 3-Meter. The Bruins would go on to take the meet by a 162-131 score.
