LOS ANGELES - After a close 4-1 win in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader at Easton Stadium against Weber State, the eighth-ranked Bruins tied for the third-largest margin of victory in school history, defeating the Wildcats 22-1 in five innings in the nightcap.

In game one, the Bruins saw their shutout streak to open the season end at 19 2/3 innings, but came away with a three-run win. Senior Delaney Spaulding reached in all four plate appearances with three hits and a walk, while freshman Bubba Nickles added two hits, as six Bruins collected a total of nine hits. In the circle, junior Selina Ta'amilo fanned seven in a complete-game triumph, giving up a run and seven hits.

After a scoreless 2 1/2 frames, the Bruins got on the board in the third, as sophomore Zoe Shaw had a one-out single up the middle and came home on Spaulding's double high off the wall in right. In the fourth, UCLA added another. Nickles led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice from senior Gabrielle Maurice and scored on a single to right-center off the bat of freshman Rachel Garcia to make it 2-0.ย

Nickles extended the lead to 4-0 in the fifth. Sophomore Paige Halstead singled to open the frame and came home one out later on Nickles' first collegiate homer to right.

Ta'amilo had 1-2-3 innings in the first, fourth and fifth, striking out a pair in the first, fourth and seventh. Weber State scored a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Sadie Blacker, but the Bruins held on for the win.

UCLA trailed for the first time this season in game two, but then scored 22 unanswered runs. Eight players had multiple-hit games, as Spaulding, junior Kylee Perez and sophomore Brianna Tautalafua each had three, while Garcia, Halstead, Maurice, Nickles and junior Madeline Jelenicki all had two. Tautalafuaย drove in a career-best five, while Jelenicki and Maurice each had four RBI.

In the circle, junior Johanna Grauer won her second game of the season, striking out a career-high 10 in five innings and giving up a run and five hits. She fanned the side in the first and second innings and two apiece in the fourth and fifth.

Weber State jumped out in front on a solo homer by Sara Hingsbergerย with two outs in the first inning, but UCLA responded with seven in its initial at-bat. Spaulding led off with a game-tying homer to center, her second of the year. After a Perez double to center and a hit by pitch of Halstead, Nickles singled up the middle to bring home Perez with the Bruins' second run. A walk to Jelenicki then loaded the bases for Maurice, who hit a grand slam to left-center for her second homer of the season to make it 6-1. Two outs later and with two on base, Perez doubled to left to plate Tautalafua to extend the margin to 7-1.

Eight came across in the second for the home team. The Bruins loaded the bases on a Nickles walk, a Jelenicki infield single and a Maurice base hit to left. Garcia then singled high off the yellow tape at the top of the wall to bring in two runs and make it 9-1. Tautalafua followed with the first of her two homers, a three-run shot to right-center, to push the lead to 12-1. One out later, Spaulding doubled to left-center, and following another out, Halstead singled her home to make it 13-1. Nickles then launched her second homer of the afternoon to left-center to bring the advantage to 15-1.

In the third, the Bruins tacked on seven more. With one out, freshman Jacqui Prober walked and scored on a Tautalafuaย homer to center to make it 17-1. A pinch-hit single in the first career at-bat of sophomore Stevie Wisz, a Spaulding single and a Perez base knock brought in the Bruins' 18th run. A Halstead single reloaded the bases, and one out later, Jelenicki bashed a grand slam to left-center for her second of the season to make it 22-1.

The Bruins wrap up play at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament on Sunday at 9 a.m. against #22 Notre Dame. Live audio and live stats will be available at UCLABruins.com.
