PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Hidetoshi Yoshihara was the lone Bruin under par on Friday at The Hayt, as he shot a 1-under 71 at the Sawgrass Country Club. Yoshihara had four birdies in his opening round, gaining shots on #8, #11, #16 and #18, adding three bogeys. He is tied for ninth, two shots back of the individual lead.
As a team, UCLA is 14th at +20 (308).
Junior Tyler Collier had an eagle on the 11th to go with birdies on #7 and #8, but also had four bogeys, a double and a triple bogey, shooting a 5-over 77. He is tied for 53rd. Sophomore Cole Madey is tied for 69th after a 7-over 79. He made a pair of birdies on #6 and #8, adding four bogeys, a double and a triple. Sophomore Phil Delisi, playing as an individual, also shot a 7-over 79. His round was identical to Madey's with two birdies (#8 and #18), four bogeys, one double and one triple bogey. Freshman Harrison Mahon is tied for 74th after a 9-over 81. He birdied his final hole, the 18th, and had five bogeys, a double and a triple. Sophomore Patrick Murphy, playing as an individual, shot a 10-over 82 and is tied for 77th. He made four birdies (#11, #17, #18 and #8), seven bogeys, two doubles and a triple. Junior Corey Shaun is 83rd (+14, 86). He made four bogeys, two triples and a quad.
The Bruins go off the 10th tee on Saturday starting at 8:39 a.m. ET/5:39 a.m. PT in the order of Shaun, Mahon, Madey, Collier and Yoshihara. Murphy (10:09 a.m. ET/7:09 a.m. PT) and Delisi (10:18 a.m. ET/7:18 a.m. PT) will also start on hole #10. Live scoring will be available here.
