
Record-Setting Bruins Finish Fifth at Pac-12s

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- The Pac-12 Championships wrapped up Saturday, and the No. 19 UCLA swimming and diving team completed another day of school records, personal bests and podium finishes in the Pacific Northwest. The Bruins finished fifth in the competition with a score of 1002, as the Stanford Cardinal captured the Pac-12 title with an overall tally of 1587.5.
On the platform, Maria Polyakova capped a successful week of dives that earned her Pac-12 Diver of the Meet honors. The junior saved her personal best in the event for the Pac-12 Championships, where she scored a 259.70 to secure third place and a spot on the podium for a third consecutive day. Eloise Belanger, meanwhile, held the lead after the preliminary round with a score of 316.35 and finished seventh overall.
With times of 47.77 in the preliminary round and 47.78 in the A final of the 100 Free, Linnea Mack broke her own school-record time of 48.31 set earlier this season. It completed a week to remember for the senior, who broke school records in three individual events and a fourth in a relay event.
In other A finals, Emma Schanz finished seventh in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:10.35, while Katie Grover finished sixth in the 200 Fly at 1:56.02. Kenisha Liu competed in the B final of the 200 Breast, as the freshman swam a 2:13.82. Amy Okada and Marie-Pierre Delisle, meanwhile, added personal-best times of 1:58.38 and 1:58. 64, respectively, in the B final of the 200 Fly.
In the 200 Back, Madison White recorded a time of 1:53.75 in the A final to finish seventh. While that time fell short, her 1:53.39 in the preliminary round broke her own school-record time of 1:53.49, previously set in 2014. Delisle (1:58.10 in the B final) and Natalie Amberg (1:58.84 in the C final) each posted personal-best times in the event, while Nina Hayes broke two minutes for the first time in her career, as she set a personal-best time of 1:59.94.
In the 1650 Free, Sandra Soe, Katy Campbell, Margaux Verger Gourson and Michaela Merlihan all earned points for the Bruins.
The Bruin 400 Free Relay team of Katie Grover, Mack, Liu and Sarah Kaunitz tried to establish one more school record in the final relay event of the competition, but fell 0.06 seconds back of the Monica Dornick, Mack, Grover, White time of 3:15.83 set in 2015. Their 3:15.89, in the end, was good for fourth.
