Bruins Finish T-7 After Third Under-Par Round

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The Bruins were under par for the third round in a row at the Waikoloa Kings' Course, as UCLA finished in a tie for seventh after a 3-under 285 on Saturday at the Amer Ari Invitational. The Bruins were 13-under (851) for the three rounds.
Freshman Hidetoshi Yoshihara was the top scorer for the Bruins for the tournament, tying for 22nd at 5-under (211). He shot a 70 (-2) on Sunday. Yoshihara opened slowly with a double and a bogey on the seventh and eighth, but quickly got back into red figures with birdies on #9, #10, #11 and #13. He bogeyed #16, birdied #18, eagled the fourth and bogeyed the fifth.
Junior Corey Shaun tied for 27th at 4-under 212, shooting a 1-over 73 in his final round. He made four birdies on #11, #15, #17 and #18 to go with five bogeys. Sophomore Cole Madey had an even-par 72 on Sunday to tie for 40th (-2, 214). All four of his birdies came on the back nine (#11, #14, #15 and #18), adding two bogeys and a double.
Sophomore Matt Hutchins equaled the lowest round of the day for the Bruins at 2-under 70. He made six birdies on #13, #17, #18, #2, #4 and #5 to go with four bogeys. Hutchins tied for 45th at 1-under (215). Junior Tyler Collier had a non-team scoring 3-over 75 and tied for 70th (+4, 220). He made three bogeys and no birdies.
Next up for the Bruins will be two split-squad tournaments, as a group heads to The Hayt in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (Feb. 24-26) and individuals travel to the TMU Spring Invite in Santa Clarita, Calif. (Feb. 27-28).
