Semifinals vs. Colorado
UCLA knocked off Colorado, 3-2, with Galdiano and Vu earning full points and Choi and Wu picking up half points. Just like she was in the morning, Vu was dominant in the afternoon, defeating Kirsty Hodgkins, 7&6. After dropping the first hole, she won the third, fourth and fifth to go 2-up. A five-hole streak from #7 to #11 put Vu 7-up through 11, as she made birdies on each of the last four holes. A halve on the 12th finished up the victory.
Galdiano also dropped the first hole against Robyn Choi, but ended up winning, 4&3. Galdiano claimed the second, fifth, seventh and ninth to make the turn at 3-up. Choi came back with victories at #10 and #11, but three in a row for Galdiano on #13, #14 and #15 clinched the win for the freshman.
Neither Choi or Wu trailed in their semifinal matches, but both came away with half points. Choi, against Brittany Fan, won #1, lost #2 and then won #3 and #4. Fan came back to square things with wins on #6 and #8, but three in a row for Choi on the 10th, 11th and 12th put her lead at 3-up. Fan took #13, #14 and #16 to again even the match. Choi birdied #17 to take the advantage to the last, but Fan rolled in a long birdie putt to steal a half point.
Wu, playing Gillian Vance, won holes #1 and #6, while losing #5 and #8 to be all square at the turn. Victories on #10 and #11 put Wu 2-up, but Vance won the next two holes. Wu went ahead again on the 14th, but dropped the 16th, and halves on the final two holes squared the match. Legaspi never led in her match against Esther Lee. Her lone hole win came on a birdie on the fifth.
Quarterfinals vs. Oregon
The Bruins defeated the Ducks, 4-1, as Galdiano, Legaspi, Vu and Wu all picked up points. Vu never trailed or lost a hole against Amy Matsuoka, winning 6&4. She won #1, #3, #6, #8 and #9, closing out Matsuoka on #14 with her fourth birdie of the round.
Wu recorded a 3&2 triumph over Kathleen Scavo. She also didn't trail or drop a hole in her match, winning the third, seventh and ninth holes before clinching the match on #16 following seven straight halves. Legaspi won 3&1 versus Cathleen Santoso. After dropping the opening hole, she won the next three to go 2-up, as Legaspi made it a 3-up lead at the turn. Santoso got as close as 1-down, but victories on #16 and #17 gave Legaspi the win.
Galdiano defeated Kelsey Ulep, 2-up, after 15 holes, with the match being called when the overall score was clinched for UCLA. Galdiano never trailed, winning the second before dropping #9 to make the turn at all square. Wins on #10, #12 and #13 combatted a loss on #11 to put the freshman up two. Ulep won #14, but Galdiano claimed #15 before heading back to the clubhouse. Choi fell to Petra Salko, 1-up, in another match which was called after the Bruins earned their third point. Salko won #2 before Choi took #4 to even things up. Wins on #6 and #9 put Salko up two. Choi bounced back with a win on #13, as the duo halved the next two holes before the match was called.
In three individual match-play contests in the morning, junior Lydia Choi defeated Ohio State's Alex Wright, 3&2. Starting on the 10th, Choi earned wins on #12, #13, #18 and #2 to go 4-up. She would drop the third and fourth, but won #7 to clinch the match. Senior Hadas Libman fell to Georgia's Isabella Skinner, 2&1. Libman took an early 2-up lead with wins on #2 and #4 before dropping #5, #7 and #9 to go 1-down. The senior won #12 to get back to all square, but lost #14 and #16, with a halve on #17 ending the match. Junior Joo Seo lost to USC's Allisen Corpuz, 5&4. Starting on the 10th, Seo dropped the first two holes, as well as #14, before winning #17 to go 2-down. However, she lost #2, #3 and #4, with a halve on #5 ending the match. In the afternoon, Choi lost 2-up to Corpuz, Seo fell 2-up to Skinner and Libman lost 3&2 to Wright.
