#10 Bruins Score Late, But Lose to #20 Utah

LOS ANGELESย - Sophomore Brianna Tautalafua drove in both Bruin runs on Saturday at Easton Stadium, but 10th-ranked UCLA dropped a 7-2 decision to #20 Utah.
The Bruins (21-7, 0-2 Pac-12) had just two hits and three baserunners, which all came in the bottom of the seventh. Redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia struck out three in six innings, giving up three runs, five hits and three walks. Redshirt senior Paige McDuffee tossed the seventh inning and allowed four runs, three hits and one walk.
Utah (20-4, 2-0 Pac-12) scored three times in the fifth on an RBI single by Alyssa Barrera and a two-run single by Anissa Urtezย and four in the seventh on a grand slam by Hannah Flippen.
In the Bruins' last at-bat, they got their first baserunner on a walk to freshman Bubba Nickles, which was followed by UCLA's first hit on a double to left-center off the bat of senior Delaney Spaulding. One out later, Tautalafua singled up the middle to plate a pair to put the Bruins on the board.
UCLA and Utah close out the Pac-12 opening series on Sunday at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks National and Los Angeles and will also feature live stats and live audio on UCLABruins.com.
