LOS ANGELES -ย Sophomore Paige Halsteadย tied a career high with three hits, while redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia added a pair of singles, as the 15th-ranked Bruins defeated Dartmouth 4-2 on Sunday at Easton Stadium. The victory was the 1,800thย in the history of the UCLA softball program.

Junior Johanna Grauer improved to 9-3 on the season, striking out one in a complete-game five-hitter, allowing two runs (one earned) and three walks. She had a 1-2-3 inning in the sixth.ย The Bruins (24-8) had eight hits from five different players.

Dartmouth (1-18-1) scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by Micah Schroderย in the top of the first. UCLA came back with two runs in its half of the second. With two outs and senior Gabrielle Maurice at second and freshman Bubba Nickles at first, sophomore Zoe Shaw singled to right-center to score Maurice to even the score. When the ball was misplayed by the Dartmouth center fielder, Nickles came around to put the Bruins up 2-1.

UCLA added another run in the fourth. Halstead led off with a single to right-center and was pinch-run for by sophomore Imani Johnson, who stole second, moved to third on a single to left by Garcia and scored when the Big Green's left fielder misplayed the ball to increase the lead to 3-1.

Dartmouth cut its deficit to one in the fifth on an RBI single by Alyssa Jorgensen to make it 3-2, but UCLA got the run back in the bottom of the sixth. Halstead started things off with a single to center and moved to second on a Garcia infield single, as both advanced another base on a Maurice grounder. After Nickles reached on an error to load the bases, Shaw grounded out to short, which was good enough to score Halstead to put the Bruins ahead 4-2.

The Bruins resume Pac-12 Conference play next weekend, traveling to #5 Washington for a series that starts on Friday at 6 p.m. The game will be televised live on Pac-12 Network.
