FULLERTON, Calif. -ย Junior Johanna Grauerย struck out seven in a complete-game, four-hit shutout, as the seventh-ranked Bruins took advantage of some miscues to defeat Cal State Fullerton 2-0 on Saturday at the Judi Garman Classic at Anderson Family Field.
The Bruins (15-4) had just four hits, as freshman Bubba Nickles posted a pair and senior Delaney Spaulding and junior Kylee Perez each added singles.ย
Grauer improved to 5-0 on the season, recording 1-2-3 innings in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh, as well as a pair of strikeouts in the second, fifth and seventh.
In the top of the sixth, UCLA scored a pair of runs thanks to three Titan errors. Nickles, who was the only Bruin to reach third base in the first five innings, got to third to lead off the frame, singling to right and advancing two bases on an error. Sophomore Brianna Tautalafua then reached on an error by the Fullerton pitcher and was pinch-run for by sophomore Imani Johnson. With senior Gabrielle Maurice up, Johnson took off for second as the catcher's throw went to third, but Fullerton's third baseman in trying to get Johnson sailed the ball into the outfield, as both Nickles and Johnson came home to score.

Cal State Fullerton (8-11) only got one runner to second base, which came in the sixth, as the Titans left three for the game.

The Bruins conclude play in Fullerton on Sunday with a doubleheader, facing South Carolina at 11:30 a.m. and #22 Baylor at 2 p.m. Live stats will be available at UCLABruins.com, while live video for a fee will be available at FloSoftball.com.
