#8 Bruins Drop Series Finale at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The 7-8-9 hitters in the Bruin lineup, freshman Bubba Nickles, senior Gabrielle Maurice and sophomore Zoe Shaw, all had two-hit games on Saturday, as did senior leadoff hitter Delaney Spaulding, but #8 UCLA blew a late lead to fall at Oregon State by a score of 8-5 in the series finale.
The Bruins (29-12, 5-7 Pac-12) had 10 hits from six different players. Junior Selina Ta'amilo started and struck out one in four innings, giving up three runs, four hits and two walks. Redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia (13-7) fanned three in 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing five runs (four earned), five hits and one walk.
UCLA scored in its first at-bat when Spaulding homered to right, her eighth of the season.
Oregon State (21-18, 4-8) took its first lead thanks to a three-run homer by Lovie Lopez in the fourth, but the Bruins rallied with four in the sixth. Junior Madeline Jelenicki led off with a double to right-center, sophomore Paige Halstead drew a one-out walk and Nickles belted her sixth home run of the season to left to put UCLA ahead 4-3. Maurice followed with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored one out later on a Spaulding double to right to make it 5-3.
The Beavers cut their deficit to one in the sixth on an RBI single by Katy McJunkin, and then walked things off with four in the seventh, scoring the game-tying run on an error and winning it on a three-run homer by Natalie Hampton.
