The fifth-seeded Bruins open up the 2017 Women's College World Series on Thursday in Oklahoma City against #13-seed LSU at 1:30 p.m. CT/11:30 a.m. PT. The game will air on ESPN, with live stats available on UCLABruins.com.

BRUINS IN THE POLLS
UCLA closed the regular season at eighth in the USA Today/NFCA poll and ninth in the ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings.

BRUINS IN NCAA WOMEN'S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES
UCLA is making its 27th appearance in the Women's College World Series and its third trip in a row. The Bruins, who are making their 33rd overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, won their 200th NCAA game last Friday against Ole Miss to move to 200-53 (.791 winning percentage, 91-33 at the WCWS, 16-6 in Supers, 93-14 in Regionals). UCLA has won 11 NCAA Championships ('82, '84, '85, '88, '89, '90, '92, '99, '03, '04, '10). The Bruins have advanced to the championship game or series in 18 of their 26 WCWS appearances. They also went 2-0 in the Super Regional round for the fifth time in nine tries. While UCLA went 0-2 at the WCWS for the first time ever last season, it does have some history on its side in 2017. The last time the Bruins were a #5-seed was in 2010 when they won it all. The entire UCLA NCAA postseason history is available on page 16 of this release.

TRENDING TOPICS
The Bruins, who enter the WCWS with wins in 18 of their last 19 games, recorded their 13th comeback victory of the season last Thursday in Super Regional Game 1 against Ole Miss. UCLA was down to its last strike twice in the seventh and 10th innings before winning it in the 11th ... the third inning has been the best scoring inning for the Bruins, netting 72 in that frame and a run differential of 48 runs ... UCLA is 34-0 when leading after five innings ... over her last 14 appearances since her most recent loss (April 15 at Oregon State), redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia is 9-0 with two saves, a 1.47 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings. She set career highs in innings (11), strikeouts (12) and pitches thrown (232) last Thursday versus Ole Miss, and followed that up with four hitless innings of relief with five strikeouts to help send the Bruins back to OKC. In her 42 appearances, she has given up zero or one earned run in 28 of them, including four of five in the postseason ... at the plate, Garcia has hits in six of her last eight, batting .370 (10-for-27) with three homers and five RBI over the last three weekends. She hit her second homer of the postseason in game one against Ole Miss, also leaving the yard versus San Jose State on May 20. It was also her third long ball in as many weekends after belting a go-ahead homer in the seventh on May 11 at Arizona State ... sophomore Paige Halstead reached in all three games at the Los Angeles Regional two weekends ago, leaving the yard for the first time since April 28 with a solo homer in the Regional Championship versus Cal State Fullerton (May 21) ... junior Madeline Jelenicki has hits and RBI in all five NCAA contests, going 8-for-18 (.444) with three homers and nine RBI. Jelenicki, who set a career high with a nine-game hitting streak from April 26-May 12, has a team-best 20 multi-RBI contests and has driven in 27 runs in her last 15 games. After hitting two-run homers in each game of the L.A. Regional, the junior had the walk-off RBI on an 11th single in game one against Ole Miss and then drove in game two's lone run last Friday ... senior Gabrielle Maurice has hits in six of her last eight contests, including a 3-for-8 performance last weekend versus Ole Miss. She had a season-best, three-hit game at ASU on May 11 and added two hits last Thursday. Maurice had a career-high, 10-game hitting streak from April 14-30, batting .375 (12-for-32) with two RBI ... freshman Bubba Nickles has hits in 15 of her last 21 contests, producing three-straight, two-hit games in the postseason (May 20 vs. SJSU, May 21 vs. CSF, May 25 vs. Ole Miss). Nickles hit a game-tying, two-run double with two outs in the 10th to keep the Bruins alive in game one last Thursday. She is the seventh Bruin freshman to post double digits in homers when she hit her 10th on May 12 at ASU ... junior Kylee Perez had a 10-game hitting streak from April 30-May 21, batting .543 (19-for-35) with 17 runs scored and 10 RBI. In her 40 games in which she has collected a hit, she has gone for multiple hits in 24 of them to lead the team. Spaulding tied a school record with five hits on May 12 at ASU to post the 10th, five-hit game at UCLA and second of the season (Perez, April 28 at Stanford). She also scored five runs to become just the second Bruin to accomplish that feat (Samantha Camuso, 2008) ... junior Selina Ta'amilo earned her 14th win of the season on May 20 versus SJSU. With a 14-0 record, she has tied Michelle Turner (2003) and DeeDee Weiman (1991) for the second-best undefeated campaign in Bruin history.
