January 10, 2018 | Swimming & Diving
LOS ANGELES โ UCLA swimmers and divers will start the 2018 portion of their schedule Friday, when divers begin at the Bruin Invite and swimmers visit Oregon State. The meets will mark the first competitions for each group since early December, when divers participated in the Georgia Fall Invitational and swimmers tackled the Texas Invite.
Each day of the Bruin Invite will begin at 10:30 a.m., while action from Corvallis, Ore. starts at 7:00 p.m. Real-time results from the Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center will be available at DiveMeets.com.
The Bruin Invite will run Friday through Sunday and feature upwards of 85 men's and women's divers from more than a dozen schools. Competition will kick off Friday with the women's 1-Meter and men's 3-Meter events. Saturday will feature the women's 3-Meter and men's Platform competitions. The invite will wrap Sunday with the women's Platform and men's 1-Meter contests. There will be a 15-minute break between each of the preliminary and final rounds.
Men's and women's divers from UCLA, Cal Poly, California Baptist, California, Fresno State, Hawai'i, Northern Arizona, San Diego State, San Jose State, Stanford, UC Davis, UNLV, USC and Utah will participate. Bruins Eloise Belanger, Ciara Monahan, Madeline Russell, Traci Shiver and Alice Yanovsky are scheduled to represent the Bruins.
Belanger was recently named the Pac-12 Diver of the Month for December, as the junior from Montreal, QC, Canada notched a Top-4 finish on each day of the Georgia Invite. Belanger won the 1-Meter contest on Day 1, then followed up with fourth- and third-place showings in the 3-Meter and Platform events, respectively. Monahan previously won the award for the month of November.
Bruin swimmers, meanwhile, will look to continue a string of success against Oregon State that includes a win over the Beavers each of the last 12 seasons. Last year, UCLA hosted five schools for its annual Pink Meetโwhich the Bruins swept, including a 134-65 decision over the Beavers.
A number of Bruins registered top times at the Texas Invitational Nov. 29-Dec. 2. The 200 Medley (1:41.05), 400 Free (3:21.07) and 800 Free (7:09.74) and 200 Free (1:31.12) Relay teams posted season-best marks, while Katie Grover had impressive showings in a number of events.
