STANFORD, Calif. - A torrid back nine for Clare Legaspi put the junior in a share for the lead after 18 holes at the Stanford Intercollegiate. As a team, the Bruins are in 13th place (+13, 297).
Legaspi made a bogey on the sixth to go with eight more pars on the front side before tearing up the back nine. She made birdies on No. 10 and 12 before recording three in a row to close her round on the 16th, 17th and 18th to finish at 4-under 67. Legaspi shares the lead with five others.
Junior Mariel Galdiano is tied for 14th, scoring an even-par 71. She made three birdies on No. 8, 9 and 13 and three bogeys. Senior Beth Wu is tied for 71st following a 7-over 78, making a birdie on the seventh, six bogeys and a double. Sophomore Vera Markevich is tied for 84th after a 10-over 81, posting a birdie on the 15th, nine bogeys and a double. Freshman Phoebe Yue is 86th (+11, 82), notching a birdie on the 16th, five bogeys, two doubles and a triple. The Bruins are playing without senior Lilia Vu and sophomore Patty Tavatanakit, who are both preparing for next week's LPGA Q-Series.
The Bruins begin round two on Saturday at 12:05 p.m. off the 10th tee in the order of Yue, Markevich, Wu, Galdiano and Legaspi.
