Bruins Finish Fall Season in Hawaii

LAHAINA, Hawaii - The Bruins close out their fall schedule in Maui this weekend, taking part in the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole tournament runs from Friday through Sunday at the Ka'anapali Golf Club's Royal Ka'anapali Course (par 71, 6,700 yards).

The starting five for the Bruins will be senior Patrick Murphy, junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara, sophomores Devon Bling and Eddy Lai and freshman Bryan Wiyang Teoh. Friday's opening round will be a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. HT, with Lai and Bling starting on the 14th, Teoh on No. 15 and Yoshihara and Murphy on the 16th. Saturday and Sunday's round will also be shotgun starts at 11:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. HT.

Joining the Bruins and host Hawaii in the 20-team field are No. 9 Clemson, No. 11 Oklahoma, No. 16 Georgia, No. 26 California, No. 27 North Florida, No. 32 Kansas, No. 34 South Carolina, No. 39 West Virginia, Air Force, Boise State, Connecticut, George Washington, Gonzaga, Houston, Sacramento State, Southern Illinois, Washington and Wyoming (rankings courtesy of Golfstat as of Oct. 30).

The Bruins are looking to improve on three-consecutive, seventh-place finishes at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 16-18), the Windon Memorial Classic (Sept. 23-24) and the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate (Oct. 19-21). In all three second rounds, UCLA was under par, shooting a combined 14-under.

Teoh is making his first appearance in the starting five, coming off back-to-back, Top 10 showings as an individual. The freshman tied for second at the Bill Cullum Invitational (Oct. 15-16), shooting an 8-under 208, including a 6-under 66 and a 2-under 70 to close the tournament. Teoh also tied for 10th at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational (Sept. 24-25), recording a score of even-par 216 with a final-round, 2-under 70, and tied for 28th at the Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 15-16).

Lai also competed in the Bill Cullum Invite as an individual and was solo seventh (-4, 212), posting 2-under 70s in his first and final rounds. As part of the scoring fivesome, the sophomore tied for 24th at the Windon (+3, 219), which included a 3-under 69 in round two, and tied for 47th at the Golfweek Challenge (+4, 148).

Yoshihara, the lone Bruin to start all four team tournaments, has a pair of Top 20 showings. He tied for 19th at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (-1, 143), shooting a 4-under 68 in round two. The junior also tied for 20th at the Windon (+2, 218) and tied for 38th at the Georgia Collegiate (+3, 219), opening with a 2-under 70.

Bling tied for 29th in Georgia (+1, 217), shooting a 2-under 70 in his final round. He opened the season with a T-47 at the Windon (+8, 224).

Murphy is playing in his third tournament, with the other two being as an individual. He tied for 53rd at the Golfweek Challenge (+5, 149) and tied for 69th at the Windon (+14, 230).
