BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Freshman Devon Bling posted his first collegiate victory on Saturday, winning the Jackrabbit Invitational at the Boulder Creek Golf Club, shooting a 7-under 65 for his final round.
As a team, the Bruins finished in second place following an 18-under 270 on Saturday. UCLA recorded a 54-hole total of 30-under 834, five shots back of first-place UNLV.
Bling's winning score was 15-under 201, as he claimed a one-shot victory. He rolled in his second eagle of the tournament on a 30-foot putt on the par-5 11th, adding six birdies on #4, #9, #12, #14, #16 and #17, with his last birdie giving him the lead for good. Bling's lone bogey came on the first hole.
Freshman Eddy Lai finished solo fifth at 6-under 210, recording a 6-under 66 on Saturday. He made three straight birdies on holes #5-#7, as well as #11, #14, #16 and #18, with just one bogey on the second.
Senior Tyler Collier and sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara each tied for 11th, finishing at 2-under 214. Yoshihara shot a final-round, 4-under 68, making birdie on his first hole (#4), as well as #7, #8, #11, #16 and #2 to go with two bogeys. Collier shot a 1-under 71, posting four birdies on #4, #11, #12 and #14, adding three bogeys.
Junior Cole Madey placed 13th at 1-under 215, shooting an even-par 72 on Saturday. He made a pair of birdies on #11 and #18 and two bogeys. Junior Jack Ireland, playing as an individual, tied for 27th at +4 (220). He birdied his first hole, the 14th, as well as #4 and #7 to go with a bogey and a double for an even-par 72. Junior Patrick Murphy, also playing as an individual, tied for 36th at +7 (223). He shot a 2-over 74 in his final round, making three birdies on #2, #7 and #12, adding five bogeys.
Next up for the Bruins is a trip to Augusta, Ga. for the 3M Augusta Invitational (March 31-April 1) at Forest Hills Golf Club.
