AUGUSTA, Ga. - The 19th-ranked Bruins resume their post-finals schedule this weekend, traveling a few miles from Augusta National to the Forest Hills Golf Club and the 3M Augusta Invitational. The tournament runs Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 7,005-yard layout.
The scoring fivesome for the Bruins will be juniors Jack Ireland and Cole Madey, sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara and freshmen Devon Bling and Eddy Lai. Saturday's action will feature a shotgun start and 36 holes of golf at 8:30 a.m. ET/5:30 a.m. PT and a final round of golf on Sunday off split tees at 8:30 a.m. ET/5:30 a.m. PT. Live scoring will be available here. UCLA will start on holes #5-#8 on Saturday.
Joining the Bruins and host Augusta in the 15-team field are #16 Illinois, #26 Wake Forest, #42 Tennessee, #43 South Carolina, #50 Marquette, Georgia State, Houston, Kennesaw State, Navy, New Mexico, South Carolina Aiken, UCF and Virginia Tech
UCLA last played March 9-10 at the Jackrabbit Invitational, finishing second with a 54-hole total of 30-under 834, as Bling picked up his first collegiate victory. In five spring tournaments, the Bruins have finished in the Top 4 in four events, including a victory at the Southwestern Invitational (Feb. 26-27, -8, 856). UCLA also tied for second at The Farms Invite (Feb. 12-13, +8, 872).
Yoshihara is a combined 9-under on the season, holding a 71.6 scoring average. He has four Top 10s, 12 under-par rounds and seven rounds in the 60s, including a 4-under 68 in his last round at the Jackrabbit Invite to tie for 11th. This spring, Yoshihara tied for second at The Farms (-3, 213) and was third at the Southwestern (-3, 213), while in the fall, he tied for third at the Marquette Intercollegiate (Oct. 1-3, -2, 214) and tied for sixth at the Inverness Intercollegiate (Sept. 18-19, -4, 138). His top round of the season was a 7-under 65 to end the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (Feb. 16-18).
Bling posted his first victory at the Jackrabbit, shooting a 15-under 201, going 67 (-5), 69 (-3) and 65 (-7) in his three rounds. He has a pair of Top 10s, 10 under-par rounds and eight rounds in the 60s. Bling is a combined 6-under in his final rounds, going under par in five of his last seven round threes. His other Top 10 came at the Southwestern, as he tied for fifth (E, 216) thanks to a final-round 69 (-3). Bling's 7-under 65 to wrap up the Jackrabbit Invite equaled his low round of the year, as he had a similar score to open the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational (Oct. 29-31).
Lai recorded his best finish of his freshman season at the Jackrabbit Invite, placing solo fifth (-6, 210), posting a 2-under 70 and a season-best, 6-under 66 in his final two rounds. The freshman has five showings in the Top 20 this season, including a T-12 at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate (Oct. 20-22, -5, 211) and a T-18 at the Southwestern (+6, 222). Lai has 11 under-par rounds and six in the 60s, recording a combined 3-under in his first rounds.
Madey has four Top 10s on the season and is a combined 8-under, holding a 71.6 scoring average, 13 under-par rounds and seven rounds in the 60s. He was fourth at the Southwestern Invite (-1, 215), tied for seventh at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (-8, 208) and tied for 12th at the Farms Invite (+3, 219). In his last tournament at the Jackrabbit, Madey was solo 13th (-1, 215). In the fall, he was seventh at the Makai Invite (-14, 202) and T-9 at Inverness (-3, 139). In Madey's second rounds, he is a combined 11-under.
Ireland is playing in his sixth event of the season, but his first as a member of the top five. He placed second at the TMU Spring Invitational (Feb. 26-27), shooting a 5-under 211, including a final-round, 6-under 66. Ireland also tied for 25th at the Farms (+7, 223) and tied for 27th at the Jackrabbit (+4, 220). He has four under-par rounds and a pair in the 60s, including a 4-under 68 in round one at the Bill Cullum Invitational (Oct. 16-17).
