Bruins Earn Top Seed for NCAA Match Play

STILLWATER, Okla. - For the second time in three years, the Bruins earned the top seed for match play at the NCAA Championships, as UCLA shot a 3-over 291 on Monday at Karsten Creek Golf Club. It marked the seventh victory of the season for UCLA to tie a single-season school record for wins (2003-2004, 2008-2009 and 2011-2012).
UCLA finished tied with Alabama at 9-over (1,161), but claimed the No. 1 seed in a tiebreaker (best cumulative fifth player score - +16 for UCLA, +30 for Alabama). The other six teams to advance to match play on Tuesday were No. 3-seed USC, No. 4 Northwestern, No. 5 Stanford, No. 6 Duke, No. 7 Kent State and No. 8 Arizona, which defeated Baylor in a playoff to earn a matchup with the Bruins in the match play quarterfinals.
The UCLA-Arizona contest will begin at 7:50 a.m. CT/5:50 a.m. PT off the first tee. Live television coverage on Golf Channel will start at 10 a.m. CT/8 a.m. PT. Live scoring will be available here. The lineups for UCLA and Arizona will be:

Junior Lilia Vu and sophomore Mariel Galdiano tied for the best finish for the Bruins, tying for 7th (-1, 287). Galdiano posted a 1-under 71 on Monday. She rebounded from three bogeys in her first four holes to make birdie on No. 6, 7, 12 and 18. Vu shot an even-par 72, making four birdies on No. 4, 9, 12 and 14, two bogeys and a double. Freshman Patty Tavatanakit tied for 19th (+3, 291), making eagle on the par-5 18th, two birdies, three bogeys and a triple for a 2-over 74. Junior Beth Wu tied for 38th (+8, 296), notching a 2-over 74. She made four birdies on the fourth, fifth, 14th and 18th, four bogeys and a double. Sophomore Clare Legaspi tied for 60th (+16, 304). She made birdies on No. 12 and 14 and four bogeys in a final-round, 2-over 74.
