BRUINS OPEN WCWS ON THURSDAY AGAINST FSU
The third-seeded Bruins begin play in the Women's College World Series on Thursday when they face No. 6-seed Florida State in the opening round at 8:30 p.m. CT/6:30 p.m. PT. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

BRUINS IN NCAA WOMEN'S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES
UCLA is making its record 28th appearance in the Women's College World Series and its fourth trip in a row. The Bruins, who are making their tournament-record 34th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament, are 207-56 (.787) all-time. UCLA is 92-35 at the WCWS, 18-6 in Super Regionals and 97-15 in Regionals. The Bruins have won 11 NCAA Championships ('82, '84, '85, '88, '89, '90, '92, '99, '03, '04, '10). UCLA has advanced to the championship game or series in 18 of its 27 WCWS appearances. With their victory over Pac-12 rival Arizona last weekend, the Bruins swept the Super Regional round for the sixth time in 10 tries. NEWS AND NOTES
Redshirt sophomore Rachel Garcia has allowed just nine earned runs in her last 101 1/3 innings (0.62 earned run average), striking out 150 with only 20 walks during that stretch. She has a 6-1 record this postseason, a 0.83 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings, pitching all but six of the Bruins' innings. Garcia has hits in five of seven NCAA Tournament games, going .364 (8-for-22) with two home runs and nine runs batted in ... freshman Briana Perez carries a 19-game hitting streak into the Women's College World Series. She is batting .403 (27-for-67) with eight RBI and 18 runs scored during the streak, and is 10-for-25 (.400) with five RBI in her first postseason. The 19-game hitting streak is tied for the fourth longest in UCLA history (Natasha Watley - 2003). Only three streaks have been longer (28 - Stacey Nuveman, 1997; 29 - Watley, 2002; 32 - Watley, 2001) ... sophomore Bubba Nickles has hits in all seven games of the postseason, batting .526 (10-for-19) with two homers and eight RBI. Nickles had a 15-game hitting streak from April 13-May 10 (.442, 19-for-43, 18 RBI) ... redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan has hits in six in a row and 27 of her last 33 (.396, 6 HR, 30 RBI) ... senior Kylee Perez has hits in eight in a row, including all seven postseason games (.423, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 6 R). During her eight-game hitting streak, she is batting .429 (12-for-28). Perez has recorded an outstanding career at the WCWS, holding a .483 average (14-for-29) with a homer and five RBI ... senior Madeline Jelenicki recorded the fourth two-homer game of her career last Thursday against Arizona. Over her last 12 games, she is 13-for-40 (.325) with 11 RBI and five home runs ... in her last seven starts, junior Taylor Pack is 7-for-20 (.350) with four RBI and three runs ... freshman Holly Azevedo has given up two earned runs or fewer in 16 of her last 17 appearances, going 7-0 with a 2.13 ERA, five complete games and 54 strikeouts in 65 2/3 innings ... the Bruins, who had 13 comeback victories last season, posted their 12th of the year in Super Regional Game 2 against Arizona last Friday ... UCLA has won 98 in a row when ahead after five innings (36 times this season) ... the Bruins have lost just once (53-1) when scoring at least three runs and are 38-0 when giving up two runs or less ... all five of UCLA's losses this year have come when the opponent scores first (9-5 record, 47-0 when scoring first) ... of the 358 runs batted in for Bruin hitters, 128 have come with two outs for a 35.8 percentage. Nickles leads the way with 22 two-out RBI, followed by Jordan and Briana Perez with 20 ... the Bruins, who lead the nation with 56 wins, were the final remaining undefeated team in college softball this season, entering their March 17 game with a 25-0 record. UCLA's start was tied for the fifth best in program history. In three of the other five seasons where the Bruins started a year with at least 25 consecutive wins, they won the NCAA Championship (1992, 1999, 2004) ... with the Feb. 25 win against Missouri, head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez earned the 500th victory of her career.

The Bruins concluded the regular season ranked second in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, earning 765 points and 10 first-place votes, while placing third in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Poll, receiving 464 points and two first-place votes.

BRUINS VERSUS THE WCWS FIELD
UCLA leads the all-time series against Florida State 8-6, but the Seminoles have won the last six meetings, including an 8-4 victory at the WCWS in 2016. The Bruins are 4-3 in the NCAA Tournament versus Florida State and 2-2 at the WCWS ... Florida holds a 6-4 edge over UCLA in its series, having won three in a row. The teams have met five times in the postseason (Florida (3-2), including twice in Oklahoma City (16-3 UCLA in 2010, 2-0 Florida in 2008) ... the Bruins are 14-2 all-time against Georgia, having won regular-season games in 2016 and 2017. UCLA is 6-1 in the NCAA Tournament versus the Bulldogs, defeating Georgia 5-2 in 2010 in the only matchup at the WCWS ... the Bruins are 83-27 all-time against Oregon, which won the regular-season series in Eugene. Over the last four seasons, UCLA is 9-7 versus the Ducks.
