NEWS AND NOTES
The Bruins are off to a 2-0 start to Pac-12 play for the first time since 2011. UCLA hasn't opened conference action with three wins in a row since 2007. The 2006 squad began league play with seven straight victories ... the Bruins had eight aces in each of last week's matches versus USC and Arizona State. It marked the first time since October 2012 that UCLA had at least eight aces in back-to-back contests ... head coach Michael Sealy will be coaching his 300th match on Friday. He won his 200th career contest as a head coach on Sept. 6 against Texas State ... junior Mac May served six aces in last week's two victories, tying a career high with four against Arizona State on Sunday. May, who has multiple aces four times this season, has double figures in kills in nine of 11 matches and three double-doubles ... senior Savvy Simo has double figures in kills in six of her last seven matches, recording a double-double in three of those contests. She was error-free versus Arizona State and has hit .300 or better in six of her last seven ... sophomore Kelli Barry has double figures in digs in nine matches in a row, averaging 4.34 digs per set during that stretch. She also has at least one ace in five of 11 contests ... redshirt sophomore Emily Ryan set a new career high with seven blocks against USC last Wednesday. She also tied a personal best with 10 kills, the third time in her career she has reached that number ... junior Jenny Mosser was one kill and one dig shy of a double-double versus USC, tying a personal best with six blocks. She also had two aces and added another against Arizona State ... UCLA will celebrate its first 100 years with a year-long, university-wide Centennial Celebration. UCLA Athletics has several Centennial Celebration plans and giveaways in store for designated home events, including a set of 13 Centennial pins highlighting each sport, as well as a souvenir mosaic poster that features personal photos submitted by UCLA fans. The fall sport Centennial events are: Football - Sept. 7 vs. San Diego State; Men's Soccer - Sept. 26 vs. UC Irvine; Women's Soccer - Sept. 27 vs. California; Men's Water Polo - Oct. 4 vs. Long Beach State; Women's Volleyball - Oct. 25 vs. Stanford.
