The Bruins will look to extend their streak of six consecutive medalists at the Stanford Intercollegiate this weekend, as 12th-ranked UCLA heads to the Stanford Golf Course. The 54-hole tournament runs from Friday through Sunday at the par-71, 6,171-yard layout.
The starting fivesome for the Bruins will be sophomore Simar Singh and freshmen Emilie Paltrinieri, Emma Spitz, Annabel Wilson and Yuki Yoshihara. Freshman Ty Akabane will be playing as an individual. Play starts off split tees at 7:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday's action a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
As a team, the Bruins have won the Stanford Intercollegiate five times (2017, 2016, 2011, 2008, 1995). Mariel Galdiano won the individual title in 2018, which extended UCLA's streak to six-straight medalists. Patty Tavatanakit won in 2017, Bronte Law claimed three in a row (2014-2016) and Alison Lee won in 2013.
The Bruins will be playing their third fall tournament, having finished third at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 23-25, -5, 859) and 10th at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M (Sept. 16-18, +27, 891).
Spitz has been the top finisher for the Bruins in both events so far, placing third at the Golfweek Challenge. She shot a 5-under 67 in round two and a 4-under 68 in the final round to finish at 8-under 208. Spitz also tied for 32nd at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (+6, 222).
Paltrinieri, Wilson and Yoshihara each made their collegiate debuts at the Golfweek Challenge. Wilson tied for 16th (E, 216) and Paltrinieri and Yoshihara both tied for 18th (+1, 217). Paltrinieri and Yoshihara each ended the tournament with 2-under 70s, while Wilson posted back-to-back, 2-under 70s in the event. Singh was 55th (+20, 236) in her Bruin debut at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. Like Spitz, Akabane played in each of the first two events, tying for 34th at Golfweek (+6, 222), which included a 1-under 71 in the final round, and placing 57th at the ANNIKA (+22, 238).
