WEEK IN REVIEW
UCLA has played just one game this week, trouncing UC Riverside by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday night at Annenberg Stadium. The Bruins led for practically the entire game after Riley Ferch scored in the fourth minute, and were 60 seconds away from recording a shutout before UCR found the back of the net at the 89:00 mark. Ferch's marker was the first of his collegiate career, and came after he pounced on a loose ball in the box. Constanintos Michaelides followed with his first career goal in the 49th minute, beating a defender to a long ball down the left wing and then curling in a shot to the far post after a UCR defender whiffed on a slide tackle attempt. Milan Iloski put the game out of reach 29 seconds later, blasting home a left-footed shot after Andrew Paoli picked off a UCR pass and then found Iloski in the box.

TOUGH ROAD
Entering the week, UCLA can lay claim to the toughest schedule of any team in the country. The Bruins' scheduled opponents have combined for a .679 winning percentage - highest in the country - including a .657 mark by past opponents and a .696 clip by future opponents. Among West Coast teams, UC Irvine (.645, seventh) and St. Mary's (.645, eighth) are the only other teams within the top-15.

HOT START FOR MILAN ILOSKI
Thanks to a five-game scoring streak out of the gate, UCLA junior forward Milan Iloski has had a red-hot start to the 2019 campaign. That streak included a hat trick against Maryland and a five-point performance at CSUN. Some notes on his torrid start to the season:
Enters the weekend second in the nation in goals (nine), third in goals per game (1.00), fifth in points (20), and sixth in points per game (2.22)
UCLA has played nine games this year - Milan has scored a goal in six and recorded a point in seven
Is two goals off the national lead, four points off the national lead
First Bruin with seven goals over the first five games of a season since 2000 (McKinley Tennyson Jr.)
First Bruin this millennium with 16 points over the first five games of a season
First Bruin with a three-game goal-scoring streak since 2015
No Bruin since 2015 (Seyi Adekoya - 12) has had more single-season goals than his current 9
Earned national, Pac-12, and UCLA Player of the Week honors after his hat trick against Maryland on Sept. 6

LAST YEAR AGAINST THE AZTECS
UCLA and San Diego State split their series last year, with each team winning on the road. The Bruins never trailed in San Diego, as Frankie Amaya opened the scored in the 46th minute followed by an overtime golden goal from then-freshman Cody Sundquist for the 2-1 triumph. The Bruins dropped a 1-0 decision at home against SDSU to close out the regular season, part of a stretch that saw the Bruins lose three consecutive games 1-0 to finish the 2018 campaign.

THE SERIES AGAINST SDSU
The Bruins have dominated the all-time series against SDSU, holding a 47-7-12 record against the Aztecs. Last year's defeat at home was a rarity in the series, as it broke a 23-game winless streak for SDSU in Westwood dating back to 1987.  Since 2000, the Bruins have lost just once at home to the Aztecs (9-1-6). Since SDSU joined the Pac-12 for men's soccer for the 2005 season, UCLA has either won or split the season series in all but one year (2007). The Bruins are 17-4-7 overall against SDSU since they joined the league in 2005.

HOT AT HOME
The Bruins have been traditionally tough to beat on their home field. Dating back to 2010, UCLA is 65-24-9 (.709) in home games, and has recorded a winning record at home in every season. UCLA is 8-5-1 (.607) at home since moving to Wallis Annenberg Stadium before the 2018 season.

ILOSKI TO ILOSKI
Junior midfielder Eric Iloski helped set up his brother Milan's opening goal against CSUN. That helper represented the second time this season that Eric earned the primary assist on a Milan goal. It was also the third time that Eric and Milan have both recorded a point on the same goal - Milan and elder brother Brian assisted on an Eric goal against San Diego State on Oct. 15, 2017.

SETTING IT UP
Entering the weekend, the Bruins have three players who have recorded a co-team-high three assists: sophomore midfielder Cody Sundquist, freshman midfielder Riley Ferch, and senior midfielder Matt Powell. That represents a single-season career high for all three players, who had combined for just two assists entering the year. Only two other Pac-12 teams (Oregon State, Stanford) have a trio of players with three or more assists.

POWELL TABBED TO PRESEASON ALL-PAC-12 TEAM
Redshirt senior midfielder/defender Matthew Powell was named to the 2019 Preseason All-Pac-12 Team ahead of the new season. Powell was one of just three defenders to make the conference's preseason Best XI. The Castro Valley, Calif. native was an All-Pac-12 second team choice in 2018 after receiving an all-conference honorable mention as a sophomore in 2017. A mainstay of the defensive corps last year, Powell was one of just three Bruins to start all 19 of the team's games. Spending time at both center back and holding mid, Powell played the full 90 in all but three games and ended the year with 1,670 minutes of action, third-most on the team.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, BRUINS
The Bruins will have 16 of 18 regular season games appear on TV this season, including all 10 home games. Pac-12 Networks will provide live television coverage of every regular season game at Annenberg Stadium in addition to four UCLA road games.

BRUINS IN RED, WHITE, AND BLUE
Former UCLA players Reggie Cannon and Jackson Yueill as well as current volunteer assistant coach Walker Zimmerman were all named to the 26-man roster for the U.S. Men's National Team in late August. Zimmerman and Cannon both started in the USMNT's battle against Mexico on Sept. 6, while Yueill appeared as a substitute. Then in the US's battle against Uruguay on Sept. 10, both Cannon and Yueill drew starts. Cannon has accrued eight caps with the senior team, including a start at right back in the 2019 Gold Cup final against Mexico. Yueill has three caps, all coming in 2019. Zimmerman, an LAFC defender, has scored twice over 11 career games with Team USA. In early October, the trio were once again recalled to Team USA for Concacaf Nations League matches against Cuba and Canada.

HOME COOKING
Starting on Sept. 26 against UC Irvine, UCLA will play a season-high eight consecutive games at home. That is the longest homestand for the program since at least 1980 (home-away designations are unavailable prior to 1980). Once that stretch begins, the Bruins don't play another road game until they head to Berkeley for a matchup against Cal on Halloween.

MILAN ILOSKI RECORDS HAT TRICK IN WIN OVER MARYLAND
Milan Iloski scored a career-high three goals to power UCLA to a 3-2 win over then-No. 1 Maryland on Sept. 6. It was UCLA's first hat trick since Chandler Hoffman had one on Sept. 16, 2011. The offensive outburst helped the Bruins earn their first win over a top-ranked team since beating Akron 6-1 on Sept. 5, 2016 and the team's first triumph over a defending national champ since topping Indiana 1-0 on Sept. 1, 2013.

TOUGH TESTS
Over the first three games of September, UCLA played three straight games against top-10 opponents (No.  2 Indiana, No. 1 Maryland, No. 6 Georgetown). The three-game span represented:
First time playing a ranked team in three straight games since Oct. 16-23, 2014 (No. 1 Washington, No. 17 Oregon State No. 2 Washington
First time playing top-10 teams in three straight games since Nov. 19-Dec. 2, 2006 (No. 9 Clemson, No. 1 Duke, No. 3 Virginia - all in the NCAA Tournament)

NICE TO MEET YOU
Nine of UCLA's 10 newcomers have made their Bruin debuts so far. Marcony Pimentel, Constantinos Michaelides, Ben Reveno, and Ruben Soria are currently in starting roles while Riley Ferch, Jefferson Alade, Luke Bone, Ollie de Visser, and Eric Pearce have all appeared as substitutes.
