UCLA Falls 1-0 at No. 5 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – The UCLA men's soccer team wrapped up its Bay Area road trip with a 1-0 loss to No. 5 Stanford on Sunday afternoon at Cagan Stadium.
The Bruins (5-9-3, 1-6-2 Pac-12) were limited to six shots in the contest, only one of which was on frame.
The Cardinal (12-1-2, 5-1-1) produced the game's lone goal from Marc Joshua in the 65th minute.
UCLA was playing without national goal-scoring leader Milan Iloski, who had to sit out the game due to yellow card accumulation.
Senior midfielder Roman Martin made his 2019 season debut on Sunday after missing the majority of the season due to injury. He logged 28 minutes on the pitch and recorded the Bruins' lone shot on goal – a 63rd minute header that required a diving stop from Stanford keeper Andrew Thomas.
Two minutes later, Joshua broke through for Stanford with his first career goal. The junior midfielder made a lunging header attempt off a Logan Panchot cross from the right side, nudging it inside the far post.
That was the lone shot that got by UCLA sophomore keeper Justin Garces, who made three stops on the afternoon.
The Miami, Fla. made goal-saving efforts on a sharp angle Will Richmond shot from just above the six in the 11th minute and a diving stop of an Ousseni Bouda laser from the edge of the 18 at the 68:17 mark.
Junior midfielder Marcony Pimentel and Martin co-led the team with two shots apiece.
UCLA has a bye this upcoming week, and is not back in action until facing league rival San Diego State on Nov. 16 in the season finale for both teams.
