Bruins Head to La Quinta for The Prestige

LA QUINTA, Calif. - The Bruins begin a stretch of three tournaments in three successive weeks on Monday when they participate in The Prestige presented by Charles Schwab. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played Monday through Wednesday at the Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST's par-71, 7,100-yard layout.
The UCLA starting five will consist of senior Cole Madey, junior Hidetoshi Yoshihara, sophomores Devon Bling and Eddy Lai and freshman Sean Maruyama. The Bruins will go off the 10th tee on Monday, starting at 7:41 a.m., in the order of Bling, Lai, Maruyama, Yoshihara and Madey. Tee times on Tuesday and Wednesday will begin at 7:30 a.m. off split tees.
Joining the 44th-ranked Bruins in the 15-team field are No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 14 Pepperdine, No. 16 LSU, No. 25 Arkansas, No. 35 Northwestern, No. 39 Stanford, No. 42 Oregon, No. 46 Iowa State, East Tennessee State, Notre Dame, San Diego State, Stirling, UC Davis and Utah.
The Bruins will be playing in their sixth tournament of the 2018-2019 season and second of the spring schedule. UCLA placed sixth at last month's Arizona Intercollegiate (Jan. 28-29), finishing at 17-under 835. The Bruins were under par in all three rounds, including an 11-under 273 in round two. Five of UCLA's last six rounds have been under par, dating back to the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational (Nov. 2-4) when the Bruins tied for fourth with a score of 27-under 825. UCLA was 12-under in round one and 15-under in round two.
Yoshihara was the top Bruin finisher at the Arizona Intercollegiate, tying for eighth. He was under par in all three rounds, including an opening, 4-under 67 and a second-round, 3-under 68, as the junior ended the tournament at 8-under 205. Yoshihara also has a pair of Top 20 finishes at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (T-19, -1, 143, Sept. 16-18) and the Windon Memorial Classic (T-20, +2, 218, Sept. 23-24). Six of Yoshihara's 14 rounds have been under par, giving him a scoring average of 71.4.
Madey tied for 16th in Arizona (-5, 208), posting a 6-under 65 in round two. He is a combined 9-under in his round twos, which also features a 5-under 67 at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate (Oct. 19-21), where he tied for 21st.
Maruyama tied for 27th in Arizona, recording a 5-under 66 in his second round and finishing at 2-under 211. He has two under-par rounds on the season, with the other coming in the opening 18 at the Windon (-3, 69), where he tied for 20th (+2, 218).
In 14 rounds, Lai has been under par in six of them, with three in the 60s. He was seventh at the Bill Cullum Invitational (-4, 212) and tied for 18th at the Ka'anapali Classic (-6, 207), posting a pair of under-par rounds in each tournament.
Bling is a combined 2-under in his final rounds, having posted four under-par rounds on the season. He tied for 26th at Ka'anapali, shooting a 5-under 66 in his final round and closing with a score at 4-under 209.
