FULLERTON, Calif. - Redshirt junior Rachel Garcia set a new career high with five runs batted in, hit her first career triple and tied a personal best with four hits, while sophomore Holly Azevedoย struck out a career-high eight in five innings, as the second-ranked Bruins remained undefeated and knocked No. 3 Florida from the ranks of the undefeated in a 7-1 victory on Wednesday at Anderson Family Field.

The Bruins (15-0) had 12 hits from seven different players, as sophomore Briana Perez tied a career high with three hits. Azevedoย struck out two in the first, third and fifth innings, tossing 1-2-3 frames in the second and fifth. She allowed six hits, two walks and one run. Freshman Megan Faraimoย tossed the last two innings, striking out five and allowing two hits.

UCLA put the pressure on early on Florida (18-1), scoring one in the first, three in the second and three in the fourth. In the bottom of the first, Perez led off with an infield single, advanced to second on a foul out by junior Bubba Nickles and scored on a double to center by redshirtย sophomore Aaliyah Jordan.ย

In the second, sophomore Kinsley Washington tripled with one out, freshman Kelli Godinย walked and stole second and Perez slapped a single to the 3-4 hole to bring in Washington to make it 2-0. After Perez stole second, Godin took off for home on a wild pitch and was tagged out, however, an illegal pitch was called on Florida keeping the inning alive. The Gators then walked Jordan intentionally to bring up the reigning National Player of the Year and paid the price, as Garcia singled to right to plate Godin and Perez to bring the lead to 4-0.ย

In the fourth, Perez led off with a triple, Nickles walked and both came home on Garcia's third home run of the season, a moon shot to left, to make it 7-0. Florida would finally get on the board in the sixth with a single run, but stranded nine in the game.

The Bruins and the Gators will have a rematch on Friday at 9:30 a.m. in Fullerton.ย
